Create a soothing and comfortable nursery or bedroom for your little one with these simple Feng Shui tips.

Tips from Living Edge Feng Shui:

Natural Try using natural materials in carpets, bedding and curtains where possible, and completely avoid using harsh chemicals to clean bedrooms. It's also important to let light and fresh air into the room each day to avoid the energy becoming stagnant.

Support Make sure the head of the cot or bed is placed against a solid wall to bring support and stability to your baby or child. And try not to place the bed underneath a window – the strong life force energy outside can deplete the body's energy throughout the night.

Toys With the rapid increase in technology, kids spend much more time inside playing computer games and using electrical devices. Try to limit the amount of electrical equipment in their bedroom which can disrupt sleep and be energy depleting.

A bedroom should be used as a place of rest, not filled to the brim with TVs, computers, Wii's and Nintendos. If your child's bedroom doubles as their playroom then create zones; one for play, one for sleep.

Decor Use colours and décor carefully in a bedroom. Pastel colours and simple prints work best in a nursery to create a soothing environment, while an older child may prefer to surround themselves with their favourite cartoon character. Remember, kids already have over-active imaginations so don't go too overboard – Spiderman needs his rest too.

Corners Make sure there are no sharp corners from other furniture in the room pointing to your baby or child's head or body when they're lying in bed. This sends out a sharp negative energy known as Sha Qi. If you can't move the furniture, cover the corners with a table runner or cloth.

Mobiles If you have a mobile hanging over your baby's cot, try and gauge your baby's reactions. Waking up and seeing an item hanging over your head is enough to startle anyone, so this doesn't suit everyone. Assess how your baby responds in their own cot.
