They’re calling this the ‘the most Aussie proposal ever’ ... and they just might be right.
When Brisbane tradie John McCormack enlisted the help of his dog, Spud, to take an engagement ring to his girlfriend Sarah Leighton, little did he know his down-to-earth proposal would become a YouTube hit.
Featuring the oh-so-romantic lines of “So, waddyareckon? Wanna get married?” and the ultra affectionate, “Is that a yes or not, a**ehole?”, the video has been viewed more than 388,000 times in less than two days.
McCormack told ninemsn that he’d been planning a more elaborate proposal, perhaps during a rugby game or hot air balloon ride, but his girlfriend’s recently broken ankle meant a change of plans.
"I had a few good ideas going through my brain but she's got a broken ankle so all those plans sort of went out the window," he said.
“I just thought I better get on with it, so I used Spud.”
The friend who posted the video to YouTube, McCormack’s friend Mike Younger, said he was surprised at how popular the video has been.
"I messaged John and Sarah this morning and told them about being 'internet famous' and they are pretty excited,” Younger said.
“Spud, however, is indifferent."
The couple has yet to set a wedding date.
