Myleene Klass

Myleene Klass is hard to pin down.  She has been a successful pop singer, being chosen as one of five singers to win the first UK series of ‘Popstars’ and form the hugely successful band Hear’say.  She has also been a successful classical musician reaching the charts with a number of albums, including Myleene’s Music for Mothers.  And just in case you thought she hadn’t done enough, she has found time to be runner-up in the UK’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, host her own movie show, release her pregnancy diary “My Bump and Me” as well as release a range of baby clothes for Mothercare.

Myleene is now in Australia co-hosting ABC3’s Escape From Scorpion Island.  We asked her to take a couple of minutes out of her hectic schedule to answer some pressing EB questions.

1. How many children do you have? What age / sex are they?

I have one gorgeous little girl named Ava. [Since this interview was conducted Myleene has revealed that she pregnant with her second child - Ed.]

2. What has surprised you the most about becoming a mother?

How selfless you become, how overwhelming it is to love someone so entirely and how you took sleep for granted in the past!

3. Do you miss anything about your life prior to having children?

Spontaneity and sleep!

4. What is the hardest part about being a mum?

Having to make decisions that are so hugely life changing and yet never really never knowing if they're the right ones...oh and the guilt..about everything!

5. How has your relationship with your partner changed since becoming parents?

Everything changes!! Luckily you find and discover a new dynamic.

6. What advice do you have for new mothers or mothers to be?

Mama knows best! Everyone will offer you their advice (some is welcomed, some not so!) But just believe you know your baby better than anyone and know what's best for them and your own confidence will grow.

7. What are you great at?

Multi-tasking and not sweating the small stuff!

8. What are you terrible at?

Cooking. I put in the effort but the results are nothing to be proud of!

9. How has your attitude to work / career changed since becoming a mother and how do you manage the juggle of family and work?

My family comes first fullstop. I have a good work ethic and I have just learnt how to incorporate my work into my family life. (When Ava was born, I created the Baby K range of clothes for Mothercare which not only satisfied my creative side but also meant no one batted an eye lid when I brought my baby everywhere!)  I have also just learnt to juggle like every other mum and I just hope I don't drop any of the many balls I have in the air!

10. What do you think about “me” time?  Do you practice it, preach it or have you resigned yourself to the fact that you will have to play catch up later on – and how do (or would) you spend your leisure time?

Yikes! Me time! When it happens I will let you know! I think if I was given any time to myself, i would use it very wisely and sleep!!

11. Who do you admire? Why?

Working mums, single mums, my own mum. There are some mums out there who don't have the support that I have and manage to hold down three jobs and have time for all their little ones and family life. They are heroes! My own mum is so selfless, kind and warm, I wouldn't be who or where I am today without her guidance love and support.

12. What kind of world do you hope for your children’s future?

My daughter and I travel the world together, and I hope for a place where she can be happy and accepted for being who she is.

13. Finally, a question all mums must face (no matter who they are!) – What are you feeding your child for dinner tonight?

Breaded chicken, cheesy trees (broccoli with cheese), carrots, mash potatoes and strawberries/raspberries for dessert.

Watch Myleene on Series 4 of Escape From Scorpion Island from October 13 at 6.25pm on ABC3.
