Nurofen - Haley Lewis

Special Promotion: Haley Lewis talks about Nurofen.

Hayley Lewis is one busy mum. Well known for her Olympic swimming career, Hayley now hosts The Biggest Loser and owns and runs The Hayley Lewis Swim School. She lives in Queensland with her husband Greg and their two sons Jacob and Kai.

Hayley, you’ve got 2 children, what are their ages?
Jacob - 12 years, Kai - 6 years

What surprised you the most about becoming a mother?
How much love and pride I can have for another human being.

What’s the hardest part of being a busy working mother?
Feeling constantly guilty when I’m away from them or when I have to do work from home and they want me to spend time with them.

How do you manage being away from your family when work requires it?
I don’t manage very well. I don’t go longer than 5 days without seeing them. I have Skype which is fantastic and they write me letters most weeks.

What do you do when your kids get sick? Do you have any helpful tips?
Lots of cuddles, Nurofen for Children, sleep and rest. I always get about 3 videos DVDs out and we lay and relax all day.

You’ve always been quite open about body image and its issues, what tips can you give to our Essential Baby mums around post-pregnancy weight?
Don’t take too long after giving birth to get active. With both boys I started walking them in the pram after about two weeks. The fresh air will be a nice change from the house and you’ll feel 100% for doing some light exercise. Your tummy will most probably be there for a while so don’t let it stress you out. My boys love my little pouch.

Tell us about the projects you’re currently involved in and what attracted you to working on them?
I currently own a swim school at a Westfield Shopping Centre in Brisbane which I’ve had for 8 years. I love owning my business despite the fact that there are little issues most weeks. I’m also writing a business book for females which I’ve almost completed writing and I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire process. I am an ambassador for Camp Quality and the Australasian Spinal Research Foundation. Currently the host of The Biggest Loser which is one of the greatest honours of my life. I love helping people and making them feel great about themselves.  Currently crocheting a very lovely vintage inspired granny square quilt to put over my knees while I’m on the computer - love nanna stuff!!

Me time: when, how and if do you fit it in?
At night after the boys have gone to bed is ‘me time’. My husband and I always have a cup of coffee and a couple of scotch finger biscuit. I love knitting so I usually knit for a couple of hours before I fall asleep.

A question all mums around Australia face, what’s the family eating for dinner tonight?
Tuesday nights are Meat pie and veg night. The pie is not overly healthy which is why I balance it out with the veges. The boys all do lots of exercise so they have hearty appetites.
