Kelsey Grammer and his wife Kayte sparked controversy by taking their three-month-old daughter, Faith, to a party at the Playboy Mansion over the weekend.

But when asked why he’d taken the baby to the raunchy Halloween event, Grammer’s answer was simple: the couple hadn’t been able to get a babysitter.

"Kayte is breastfeeding and we do not have a nanny or a trusted babysitter at this time, so Faith goes everywhere with us," the Boss and ex-Cheers actor told E! News.

"We enjoyed the party with a few of our friends, the baby slept as her ears were covered the entire time, and we left shortly after midnight."

Some party guests were shocked to see an infant at the mansion, where Hugh Hefner often holds wild parties for friends and stars. One told Radar Online, ''It just defies logic. There were no other babies or children at the party. Playboy mansion parties aren't for kids.''

One of the Playboy models, Melissa May, tweeted, “Why the [expletive] does Kelsey Grammer have a newborn baby at the Mansion party!?!?!?”

Grammer’s ex-wife, with whom he has two children, also weighed in on the matter, tweeting, "OMG This can not be true!" after seeing the news online.

But Grammer’s spokesperson downplayed the debate, saying, ''People have taken their infant children out with them since the beginning of time. If it weren't at the Playboy Mansion, no one would have even posted. It is a non-story.”
