His videos have racked up over six million views and now the star of 'How to Dad', Jordan Watson, is getting his own show.
Watson will receive NZ$84,903 from NZ On Air and YouTube for the show How To Dad: Legend of the Gumboot, as part of a new initiative between NZ On Air and Google.
The hilarious Auckland dad made international headlines in May with his humorous and inventive videos such as how to hold a baby, how to put a baby to sleep, and how to get a baby to clean the house, all of which he filmed with his daughter.
For his new web series, he will be putting his tongue-in-cheek parenting skills to the side to focus on another talent: gumboot throwing.
Watson said he took on comments from NZ On Air to make a show "as Kiwi as possible".
"We wanted to come up with something that links this random bloke together with a story arc.
"The angle of it is that I want to make the kids proud, and one way I'm going to do it is to try and become New Zealand's number one gumboot thrower.
"It's that tongue-in-cheek, mockumentary style we've been doing, but building up gumboot throwing to be the biggest sport in New Zealand - and here I am, 'How to Dad', trying to impress my kids and be at the nationals."
Watson hopes the show will be completed by the end of summer 2017.
Watson said he started the original How To Dad clips mostly to entertain a couple of mates who had babies on the way.
"I didn't really know what would come from it, was just taking the piss, in a sense, and having a bit of fun - there are so many serious parenting blogs and vlogs.
"When this opportunity came around we thought, 'why not'? It would be bloody awesome to get our hands on a project and kind of make more of what we're doing and branch off from there."
