Get Messy!
The party season is upon us with lots of gatherings and entertaining at home. It can also be hard work and daunting when you are entertaining in your home.
Here is the guide to help remove the hassle as well as spills and stains during the party season.
Red wine
Tip here is to get it quick and while it is still wet.
Water, vinegar and soap method is best applied immediately after blotting the red wine stain with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Next, combine one tablespoon of stain remover with one tablespoon white vinegar and two cups lukewarm water. (Some stain removal guides suggest first applying soapy water and then applying a vinegar and water solution. Both remedies work.)
If it is clothing or cloth fabric, always check the label of fabric to see if it is dry clean only.
- Laying down some rugs at the entrance or busy areas on carpet is a great way to rescue the carpet from unwanted scuff marks or wine and food spills.
Oily spills
Oil and greasy stains such as cooking oil, butter or margarine can be removed by a solvent-based stain removal product and then washing garment or fabric.
- Wearing an apron will help keep clothes stain free whilst doing the cooking, especially the BBQ
Tomato sauce
Whether it is a drip on the table cloth or drop on your clothing, tomato sauce stains are annoying and hard to hide, especially on white!
Scoop or spoon the excess sauce off with a spoon or knife and run cold water through the back of the stain to force the sauce to run away and not through the fabric.
Rub a stain removal gently over the stain area and wash. If garment is white and tested for colourfastness, you could bleach the garment or use lemon juice.
- Removable washable covers are fantastic for jazzing up the dining/outdoor area and make it easy to throw in the wash
Grass stains in clothes
Summer is lots of fun being outdoors for everyone especially the little ones and there is nothing more annoying when playtime is over and the gorgeous party outfits and dresses have grass stains.
However, they are not impossible to get out: powder detergent and a Napisan paste rubbed on the stain before soaking and washing. Alternatively you could use warm water and vinegar and rub directly on stain before washing.
- Try a few drops of Molasses or Karo syrup and put it directly on the grass stained area. Really rub it into the fabric and let it sit for a few minutes and wash as normal.
Glue and paint at craft time
Craft time can be the best fun and great to keep the little ones entertained but can also become messy.
Glue: simply soak clothing/table cloth in soaking solution and detergent with warm water and a tablespoon of white vinegar. Rinse well & wash as normal.
Oil paint: A simple method to remove paint from clothes is to first pour a generous amount of liquid soap on the stained area of the garment, and allow it to soak in. Then, take an old cloth and rub the spot. Try to work out the stain, then rinse and repeat from the beginning.
- Keep oversized old t-shirts in the craft box with a plastic craft table cloth.
