It was a doubles celebration with a twist. Swiss tennis great Roger Federer and wife Mirka yesterday introduced their identical twin daughters, Charlene Riva and Myla Rose, to the world.
When they were born in Zurich on July 23, Federer – who turned 28 yesterday – and his 31-year-old wife declared: "This is the best day of our lives." Yesterday, as the tiny girls made their public debut on Federer's Facebook page, British bookies were offering odds of 100/1 for the pair to win Wimbledon one day.
Federer will return to competition at this week's Rogers Cup in Montreal after a five-week break following his sixth Wimbledon singles win – a record-breaking 15th grand slam singles title. His wife and daughters will travel with him.
“Mirka went through a check yesterday. The babies have been at the hospital for 10 days and everything is perfect," he said yesterday. "So we're doing it. Big family. Big trip. On the bandwagon. I'm really excited to see how we're going to manage it."
