Top 5 (free!) beauty tips for busy mums

Lots of women complain that, since having children, they don't have time for beauty routines anymore. To those women, I say, pfffft.

It's totally possible to get glammed up, without breaking the bank or missing out on time with your kids. You don't even have to wake up super early.

Here are my tips on how to keep your beauty routine thriving while a mother*:

1. Get regular facials

While many women like having facials at beauticians, I must admit it can be hard to sneak away from the little ones for such periods of time. Add in the cost of an actual facial, and it may end up more on your 'wish list' than a must-have.

But that doesn't mean you have to forgo facials altogether.

Why, I practically have a steam facial everyday.

Sure, it involves me opening the dishwasher straight after it's finished its cycle, but I find nothing "wakes up" tired skin more than a burst of steaming air.

2. Embrace the 'bed hair' look


Some people pay good money to perfect the bed hair look. They buy expensive products to make hair look voluminous, textured and effortlessly messy.

Boy, do I have some good news for you, fellow mums. Bed hair need not cost a fortune.

All it takes is literally waking up in the morning, accepting how your hair looks after a night of broken sleep, and slapping a confident smile on your face.

Bed hair? Mastered.

3. Learn how to do the perfect smoky eye

Nothing says sexy more than smoky eyes. The key to smoky eyes is to smudge that eye makeup till it's all messy.

Well, there's no easier way to master 'smoky eyes' than going to bed with mascara on and forgetting about it. Rubbing your eyes a few times in the morning helps add to the effect.

Sure, some might call the outcome more 'panda eyes' than 'smoky eyes' but it's all a matter of perspective, really.

4. Master that rosy-cheeked glow

I'm sure there's a perfect shade of blusher out there that makes cheeks look flushed with the radiance of youth and good sleep.

While us mums might not have time to rifle through our local makeup store to find that exact blusher, take heart.

All you need to do is follow your toddler around the house a couple of times, or simply fume at the amount of washing that awaits you, and you too can sport that dewy, rosy-cheeked glow!

5.  Keep your skin well-hydrated

As ridiculously good-looking male model Derek Zoolander once famously said, 'Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty'. (Hear, hear, wise master.)

Well, nothing amps up the wetness factor for your skin more than slatherings of moisturiser.

If you can't afford expensive moisturiser, no worries. Baby cream makes an excellent substitute.

Just don't use the baby's bottom cream by accident. That stuff is really hard to get off and it turns out that thick white globby dots on your skin ain't a good look (who knew?).

You don't need to say sayonara to all your beauty wishes just because you became a mother. With just a few little tweaks, you can look like an absolute goddess without spending a fortune. You are so welcome.
