Dad and daughter's loving tribute in mum's memory

Photographs provide a means to access the past and keep memories fresh in mind. To pay tribute to his late wife, a father and his young daughter posed for a series of photos that reflect on their lives without her.

Ben Nunery and his wife Ali closed on their Cincinnati home in 2009, the day before their wedding. Recognising their brand new - and empty - home as a great setting, they had a selection of photos taken there on their big day.

Just a few years later, Ali passed away from a rare form of lung cancer at the age of 31. She left behind Ben and their daughter Olivia, who was then a year old.

Two years after the tragic death, Ben and Olivia got ready to move to a new house - but first needed to say goodbye to their home they'd once shared with Ali. So, with the help of Ali's sister, a professional photographer named Melanie Tracey Pace, they recreated these special photos from Ben and Ali's wedding day, as a way to remember the happy times.

"It immediately brought up memories of being there the first time," Ben told Today. "They were really good memories I cherish and want to remember."

"I hope that people can see it as evidence of a love that Ali and I shared that is still very deep, [and] that love carries on, and it doesn't die. People who don't know us personally but may have experience with losing a loved one can see that as an example of healing and life moving on.

"It doesn't mean that we forget our loved ones, but find ways to remember them and keep that memory going."
