Hello and welcome to your new buddy group. I'll lock and open a new thread when you get to about 100 posts. Feel free to post in the Misc section to advertise your new group original.gif

Have fun!
MarsBarSlice
Thanks Mintie for opening the thread

Hi everyone. I live in the Lake Macquarie area just down the road from Charlestown. I like going to new places and love that to get around Newcastle/Hunter, no where is very far. I'm originally from Sydney so driving around here is a breeze.

I have 2 boys aged 3 and 1 and am an older mum. I love getting out of the house and meeting new people.

Look forward to hearing from you biggrin.gif
Laam
Yes thanks Mintie.

I am in Newcastle (Adamstown to be precise), we moved here 7/8 months ago from Canberra and I am very much still finding my feet.

I have a DS who will be 3 at the end of this month and a DD who will be 17months next week.

MarsBarSlice Lake Macquarie is a lovely area, how long have you been there?
Azadel
This is a good idea!

We've just moved back to Newcastle after five years in Sydney (well I moved back anyway, DH is from Sydney and I met him there). I used to live in Charlestown but now live closer to town. My DS is 11 months today and I'm looking for work ATM.
MarsBarSlice
Laam - I've been here nearly 3 years. Adamstown isn't very far from me, but in Newcastle nothing is which is one thing I love about it.

Azadel - Welcome back. I hope you enjoyed Sydney. Most people I come across don't like Sydney if they aren't from there. I still really enjoy going back to Sydney but I'm happy here as well.

We've all got that dreaded viral/flu thing that is doing the rounds at the moment. I'm hoping we can shake it soon cause we've hardly been out of the house in a week and it's getting a bit much for all of us. I'll be cancelling swimming again tomorrow which always disappoints the boys.

Hi everyone.

We're packing up our family from Sydney's inner west and planning our move to the Newcastle area. My husband can work in the Newcastle office of his company, and hopefully we can afford to buy a house. Sydney prices are ridiculous. Our daughters are 2&1/3 and nearly 5. Big one starts school next year, hence our haste to move before she starts.

Last weekend we looked around New Lambton, to be in the catchment area for New Lambton primary school. But there isn't much.

Next we'll look around Adamstown for belair primary.

Any other suggestions?

Hamilton doesn't seem so family orientated, more young professional couples, but that's just our observation.

Hi Ladies

I am in Port Stephens - Nelson Bay. Gorgeous area. We have been here for almost 2 years now. Previously lived in "the Valley"for 7 years and QLD before that.

I have a dd who is almost 10.

Looking forward to getting to know you all. original.gif

Hi all original.gif
Another ex Sydney mum, now living in Thornton.

We have been here around 12 months now, so far I'm loving it! Much more relaxed than Sydney.

Oh, I should say I'm an "older" mummy of 5, eldest is 21 and the youngest is 2.

Wow the weekends go quick. We went to Nobbys Light house today to have a look and it was a lovely day. The walk was great and the boys loved it. I assumed though that when they say it's open that you can go inside and up the stairs but you couldn't so that was a bit disappointing. Still the boys had fun running around in the park.
Azadel
Loriblue - I have a few friends with young kids who live in Hamilton and the primary school is supposed to be very good. It's also a good area for walking everywhere. Probably most like the inner west you'll find in Sydney (I lived in Summer Hill and Marrickville).

Autumnal - would you believe I've never been to Nelson Bay? I hope to go soon.

Tracieleigh - what part of Sydney are you from?

MarsBarSlice - we went to Nobbys a few weeks ago and loved the view, bit of a hike though...
MarsBarSlice
Azadel - Yes it was a work out, I pushed a pram up it. That was my exercise for the next month!

It's so hard to decide what to do about schools. My eldest boy is in preschool and we thought we had schools sorted but lately I've been hearing some bad things about the high school his primary school would feed into. I realise that's a long time away but it sticks in your mind.

We all got up at 8am today, that never happens. It's a shame it was a preschool day cause we had to rush to get out the door. We actually made it on time.

I've been to Nelson Bay and it is awesome. So relaxing and beautiful, what a lovely place to live.

I'm from Sydney, not inner city but I used to hang out in Newtown alot. Great restaurants and great bands were always on.
Tracieleigh
I lived in the St George area.......
Autumnal
Tracieleigh - I grew up in the st george and sutherland shire.

Azadel - you HAVE to come to the bay its gorgeous. AS you drive into town coming down the hill the water is azure blue and gorgeous (on a sunny day that is). There are so many beaches suited for everyone.

Hi everyone

We live in Raymond Terrace, close to williamtown RAAF base cause were a RAAF family!

We have been in Newcastle for 4 years we were from Sydney pre RAAF days I grew up in the Hills district. Then moved to Bondi Junction and Rose Bay. Then moved back to western Syd when we had kids living about 30 mins past Richmond RAAF base.

We have 5 children aged 10 and under. My youngest just turned 3.....he has special needs he has GDD and is mostly non verbal so my days are mostly spent taking him to speech therapy and early intervention I would really like to get out more but he is hard to take out in public - he screams alot!!! so people stare sad.gif

Is this group planning a meetup Id love to meet you all original.gif

Also if anyone has a special needs child Id love to chat/meetup

Michelle
Autumnal
Hi my5raafbrats - you live about 25 mins from me. Do you like raymond terrace? I go shopping there a couple of times a month.
Laam
MarsBarSlice pushing a pram up the lighthouse is such a work out!

Loriblue I don't know much about schools as my kids are not school age but friends have their boys in Glendore and they love it, Hamilton is a beautiful suburb it always seems full of families to me. (DH wants to buy in Hamilton east area if we deciede to stay longterm) We live in Adamstown I love it here I feel close to everything.

My5raafbrats that sounds like hard work. I would love a meetup. I am so shy and have barely met any people since we moved but getting very lonely.

I am 'home' this week in Canberra and missing the Newcastle weather. It is soooo cold here.

Good Morning Ladies

Any of you ladies going to the Newcastle Sewing and Craft Show?
zaacaa
Hi girls,
We will be moving to Newcastle by the end of the year for DHs work.

Hopefully if you all arrange a meeting we will be in Newie by then and would love to come and meet some other mums and kids as we don't know that many people.
Azadel
We took DS to the museum yesterday to see the Brickworks exhibit. As we walked along the foreshore I thought "dammit I love it here".
MarsBarSlice
I won't be going to the show, I'm not into arts and carft.

I would be interested in a meet up though.

We had swimming this morning and both boys did really well.

Hey Everyone,

Do you have room for another?

I live in Clarence Town and have a 13 month old DS.

I'm heading to the Cherry Blossom markets tomorrow so I hope the weather is fine. Love these markets because everything is handcrafted. Its at Newcastle Harness Raciing club (behind marathon stadium) if anyones interested.

Would love to meet up with you all one day.

MBS- we're overdue for a coffee too biggrin.gif

OMG how hard is it to find a daycare centre in this town! There seem to be a very short supply of centres here.If anyone has any tips or tricks I would love to know them, I have never been home alone with the kids this much and they are driving me mental.

On the other hand this is such gorgeous weather at least I can let them run amok in the yard.

Anyway I'm Vicki, new mum my son is 5 1/2 mths - whose just figured out he can roll but gets frustrated as he can't seem to go anywhere, i find it entertaining biggrin.gif.

MarsBarSlice
Hi again everyone. Sorry it's been ages since I've posted. Ok, let's do a meet up. Where suits everyone and pick a day. I can do most days except Thursdays.
cheekymonkeysmum
I can also do most days even just depending on dps work schedule as i have to drive him atm but should be good.

I don't mind where speers point park is good though sometimes gets over crowed though does have a little shop where you can buy coffee and ice creams etc.

Maitland park is really good for the little ones (1-4yrs) but is a bit of a drive.

Newcastle Foreshore is also good but does not have coffee.

And the playcentres like Lollipops at Kotara Megamania at charlestown Hype up at ruterford Tinlids in morriset and my least favorite fair play ( sick.gif sick.gif ) at gatehead

I guess it all depends where everyone is from and try to meet in the middle.

Also how are we going to recognize each other i thought of coloured streamers on the pram or wearing wearing a coloured shirt.

Hope to catch you all soon original.gif .
nickym83

Hi ladies. Ok, so we have a lot of people wanting to meet up which is great. Let's make it for Tuesday, 20 November at 10am. As a suggestion for a venue that might be central to everyone how about a park in town with a playground? I'm not too familiar with them so if you know any please suggest.

To recognise each other maybe we all wear a black t-shirt?

Any help on the above is welcomed and appreciated. Look forward to meeting you all. biggrin.gif
Tracieleigh
Tuesday the 20th is good for me original.gif
Laam
I wish I could make it but I have finally found a job but it is full time sad.gif
MarsBarSlice
We haven't had many responses to meeting up tomorrow so we will make it another time. Any suggestions on a day and place?
Tracieleigh
I can do any day between school hours. My hubby does FIFO work, so the week he's home I try to spend with him. Other than that, I'm free most days.

I have no idea of "where".......I have a car so can travel original.gif
Alpha_Chook
I am in Adamstown with my 2.5 year old and work 3 days a week!!

I am free Tuesday and Wednesday and weekends
