So DP and I are liking Ariana for a girl, but I'm just wondering how most people say it.

Do you say it with a short 'a' sound and short 'ana' (a-RI-anna) or with a long 'arrr' sound and long 'ana' (Arr-i-ar-na)?

I don't mind either way, but I prefer the second.

Thoughts please original.gif

I pronounce it the second way. Very pretty.

A-ri-anna

Very pretty name:-)
KnightsofNi
The second one. DD went to CC with an Ariana and that is the way it was pronounced.
gadfly271
Neither. The only Ariana I know says it with short A at the beginning and long A in the middle (Ari-AR-na).
pitzinoodles
Not sure the correct pronunciation, but I would say it the first way until corrected!
mad madam mim
Ari-ar-na
BeagleBoy
I would pronounce it - Ah-ri-ARN-a.
It's a name I had on my list and I've loved it ever since reading it in Harry Potter (nerdy I know!)
DH was not so keen, and our surname starts with A as well so it would have been a bit funny, and we had a son anyway!

I'd pronounce it this way as well. It certainly is a very pretty name original.gif
la di dah
ar-ee-AHN-a.

Like the name Ari, second part ahna, not like "anna". Usually. That is the most common pronunciation, I think.

"Ari, anna" second most common.
Swarley
I went to school with three Ariana's in New Zealand original.gif

They were all pronunced like this:

Excellent. We do prefer the second, so it's good to know that most people will say it the same as we plan to if we use it original.gif
