Hi, I have Hashimoto's Disease (Autoimmune Hypothyroidism) and I am TTC#2.

I lost an pregnancy in March at about 8 wks. I concieved in January and had a TSH function test about 5 days before conception. The result of that test was TSH = 3.86 and Free T4 = 16.1.

Since then my Dr increased my Thyroxine meds from 100x5d.p.w and 75x2d.p.w to 100x7d.p.w. I had a new test done last week. The result was TSH = .62 and Free T4 = 16.8.

So my TSH has dropped quite a bit and my Free T4 has slightly increased.

When I questioned this with my Dr - i.e. is this a good level to be at for TTC? He seemed vague. AS this is my first time TTC since being diagnosed with Hashimoto's I was wondering what other's experiences are for optimal TSH levels for conception. Some reading on the net that I have already done suggests between 1.0-2.0 is best???? wacko.gif

I have an overactive thyroid and would love to be at a TSH level of 0.62. As we are TTC #2 my levels have to be over 0.9 and preferably between 1 and 2. For me it is a constant battle as I do not like my levels being close to 2. I fell pregnant at 0.9 last time but they think that was just lucky.

Your specialist should be able to answer your questions. Mine answers anything I ask and also explains everything she does and what impact it has on what I am trying to achieve.

Target TSH pre-pregnancy/at time of conception is 0.5-2.5. (American Guidelines). There has been quite a drop in your TSH with quite a small change in thyroxine. Any chance you are pregnant now? TSH drops in early pregnancy. I would recheck again in 2-3mths to check you are at steady state.

Thanks for the replies! I thought the drop was large for such a small change in meds too. I was half expecting my Endo to decrease my meds to 75 one day per week, 100 on the other days to see how that turns out. But he said my levels were fine to start TTC. I'm not so convinced since they are quite changed from the last time I concieved in January.

I saw my Endo on Sat he was the one who seemed vague! Not pregnant atm, have done a couple of tests!

Interestingly I saw my GP yesterday and he was shocked my Endo has not decreased my meds slightly to try to elevate my TSH level pre-conception. As previously mentioned my Endo was quite vague and left me feeling not very confident in him. My GP agreed that my TSH levels should be higher than .62 for conception, preferably over 1.0. So I'm going to start taking 100 6xdays and 75 1xday, we'll see how that goes...

i just found some paperwork of mine and i found a throid one

said 27/11/06 tsh miu/l 4.10
then 16/4/07 tsh miu/l 4.58

consistent with euthyroidism,

what does that mean, i was alot more overweight then to,

i am going tomorrow for more blood tests anyways due to being on diet shakes so im gonna ask about doing more thyroid testing as im planning on ttc also and wasnt aware of any problems

Hi trayc

It sounds like a good plan to ask at your next appointment for them to check your thyroid levels. These last test results seem to be in the normal range, but at the higher end (it's hard to know for sure without seeing the the reference ranges for the lab that completed the test).

Weight issues can be associated with thyroid problems.
