Jess, I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself about making their birthday huge, definitely do something (a cake and lots of singing!!), but maybe have a big party for them when they are better?

God knows you are dealing with enough without worrying about making it a big celebration!

Maybe You and Jase and A and K all go up and give them a BIG rendition of happy birthday and shower them with lots of little gifts??

Are you allowed to have some helium balloons maybe? A really pretty arrangement of them near their cots?

Morning Quixote - your girls are just gorgeous and I can see why you want them back to give them cuddles - I want to jump through the screen and pick 'em up (crazy stalker lady that I am ! haha) so I can only imagine how much you want to be cuddling them right now.

For their birthday is there any way you can do what you were planning at home in some reduced capacity ?? I don't know what you were planning but what sprang to my mind were perhaps some helium balloons, Happy Birthday banner and a new teddy ? or something to cuddle ?? Whatever you do, it will be super special

Does the hospital have Clown doctors or regular visitors to the children's ward? You know, the Make A Wish type fun people who try to entertain the children to take their minds off the treatments? Maybe they might be able to do something suitable or suggest stuff. Even a few balloons and a big banner would be ok.

Jess, talk to the staff. I am sure they will respect the need to have a birthday celebration for your beautiful girls and will help you plan something.
You'll find that they will probably do something too .

Hi Quixote, I'm glad to hear the girls are still fighting... I work in a PICU, and we ALWAYS celebrate birthdays.... I'm pretty sure PMH will be no different.

Hoping you don't have to celebrate in icu tho x

And don't forget the champagne for you! First birthdays are just as much for the parents I think

I second the champagne! It's a big event . And even though they can't eat it, cake is always good, everyone loves cake! And I'm sure your family will enjoy the cake on the girls behalf

Maybe a family member or friend cold put together a poster for both girls of pics of them during their first year of life...they have such amazing fight In them both and I think it would be lovely for both to have something at the end of their cots reflecting on their amazing journey so far...it really is a celebration how hard they have fought to get this far and continue getting stronger...

Just read your update: Perhaps they are doing all of her care/wash/pressure areas etc and it is just taking a little more time to get her stable and wires in the right place. Why not go back to the room and ask if you're allowed back in. Has there been a change over in staff?

My heart is in my throat for you. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Big big hugs and loads of strength to you and your family.

It feels horribly inadequate but I am still here too, reading and supporting.

Hope this situation is nothing concerning.

Keep telling yourself not to think too much. Ive done the wait in the quiet room under different circumstances and I remember all too well that sick feeling. Hang in there.
