Yesterday I was carrying my 6.5 mo when I slipped on the floor and fell forward. I twisted and tried to protect her but she still bumped the back of her head on the timber floor. It wasn't super hard but hard enough for her to cry pretty bad for a few minutes. I took most of the fall and am feeling very sore bur mostly I just feel guilty. I've had a bad night's sleep because I keep dreaming about it. I don't feel confident in carrying her now.

Oh you poor thing, it's awful when you hurt them. I am sure she's fine and I can totally understand you being very stressed about it.

I accidentally dropped my DD when she was 7 months and she broke her leg. She had to be in a cast for 5 weeks. I felt like THE WORST Mum ever and every time i saw that cast it was a reminder.

Dont beat yourself up about it, it has happened to a lot of us.

I fell on top on my boy when he was just over one year and broke his leg.

He had only just started walking a few days prior, so he was back to crawling while he had his little cast on. Although he had started walking on it again by. The endof the three weeks it was on.

I fell in the bathroom with my 5 mo and I banged my head pretty badly. Too out of it to be sure how he fell, but luckily he cried straight away then settled, which the doc said was a good sign.

I fell down a flight of stairs when DD2 was 5 months old. She hit her head, but not badly, just cried for a few minutes. I however broke my ankle saving her.

It happens more often than you think. You will be fine with her. Don't feel guilty.

Another one who has dropped 2 of her kids on their heads by accident. Also slammed middle child's fingers in the door by accident, and she lost her fingernail. Makes you feel like crap, but you are 1000 times more dilligent after that. Don't be too hard on yourself, it happens all the time.

When my DS first learnt how to stand (8 months old) he had so many incidents of falling and landing on the tiles with his head. The sound of his head cracking against them was awful but his crying was even worse.

I took him to our beloved GP who assured me and said that babies are built to be pretty tough and flexible and that to do any major damaged at this age the impact would need to be equivalent to them falling down a flight of stairs.

Don't beat yourself up. When DS was small and I was carrying him sideways (trying to get him to sleep, etc) I regularly banged his head on the door frame and while trying to get him into the car rear facing. Hope you feel better soon.

As Covert said - babies are really tougher than you think and bumped heads seem to be in all photo albums, so we all do these things and accidents happen all the time.

Another guilty of it... I also turned my back for a second only to turn back to see the trolley DD was in tip.. i am so glad she was strapped in.. mild concussion was all she had.. i hate to think what could have happened if she was not strapped in.

There are so many design flaws with pregnancy, birth and infancy. One is that babies don't bounce. They should! Don't beat yourself up OP, your confidence will return with time and in the meantime just do something to help you feel more assured, like saying to yourself 'I have this under control' or something similar as you go to pick her up.

We've sure had our fair share of bumps in DS's first 18 months, but we had our first bleeding incident yesterday, poor DSD (12 yrs) was carrying him out of my room for a bath, and he twisted at the wrong moment and clunked his temple against the door frame, blood started streaming everywhere like the proverbial stuck pig, it was only the tiniest of cuts but DSD became hysterical , DS only gave a little cry then snuggled into me and bled all over me before I managed to calm DSD down enough to get her to bring a clean flannel and ice pack! A bit of Betadine and a steri-strip later, it was all fixed

My DD fell off the bed 2 weeks ago, she cried for a minute and then was fine. Me on the other hand watched her like a hawk all day, only let her sleep in my arms and got hardly any sleep that night. She was totally fine and ive heard all sorts of stories since then from other mums who have had similar experiences. I think these babies of ours are tougher than we think.
