What do you think?

A bit of background: DH is irish and wants an irish name. Him and I have totally opposing taste and naming is a nightmare. DD has a popular name, DS has an irish name but one which is easy to read and spell. Having one 'common' name in the sibling mix, I don't want anything to difficult to pronounce or spell, ruling out a lot of Gaelic names.

I found 'Manus' on a random naming website, citing it was irish and after a bit of searching found it was used there for a while but is still pretty rare - still, I really like it, it goes with the other kids names and DH *thinks* he likes it and that's nearly as good as it gets with us...

We don't know whether this is a boy or not, but other boy options that are being considered (but none of these have us both loving them) are:
Rory
Callum
Tadhg
Luke
Joseph
Hugh (DH wants to scrap these last two now but I'm still pushing)

Thanks original.gif

How do you pronounce Manus? I was going to suggest Tadhg but then you had already listed it, so my vote is for that! I love it, but DH would never let me use it sad.gif

I see that it is the Irish for of Magnus, I think that would be the better name to go with. I can see Manus being teased, people would drop the M.

Unfortunately, this.
Love Magnus though, although not Irish. Also like all of the names on your list.

It's quite nice..... something similar (though not Irish) is 'Manny'.... that was what my brother had picked out for a boy, named after the woolly mammoth on Ice Age. original.gif

or if you wanted one more spellable, Callum would be my next fave

I'd avoid any name with "anus" in it... kids will latch onto that in an instant.

I really like Tadhg and Callum from your list.
Jip
Agree with PP... I thought of anoos as well.
Mamabug
Sorry...the association is not a good one for me, namely Mannus Correctional Centre in NSW, a location often used for sex offenders...

But that is a bit of an obscure association!

We have a Manus at our school and as far as i'm aware there is no problem with his name and yes one of his parents is irish

I only see the "anus" it Manus, sorry sad.gif

From your list, I like Luke and Callum original.gif

The first thing I saw was anus sorry. And then the M in front made me think man anus for some reason.

Callum and Luke are great though and the others ok.
Peevish
I like it. I didn't realise it was Irish, the only people I have come across called Manus have been Dutch.
Dabri
Bad personal association...

So no, not a fan.
