For a boy, obviously original.gif
What do you think??

Edited to add that the only Argus I know is the caretaker at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry wacko.gif he looks pretty scary tongue.gif

ETA again: stupid spelling mistake! I meant Argus sorry!

Argus or Angus? I'm a bit confused.

Angus - YES, I think it is a gorgeous name

Argus - NO. It reminds me of the UK store Argos! And it sounds quite harsh to me.
fancie
Argus is a great name for a newspaper.

Not a good name for a little boy.
mumto4boys
The Argus - yes, definitely a newspaper. Google will probably have the history of The Argus somewhere.

Angus - quite a nice name.

I agree with this. I like Angus though.

Argus Filch

Not a fan of Angus either. Makes me think of steak.

Same here BadgerBasher! I used to love the name! I blame it on the hype created by Mcdonalds and Hungry Jack.

Thanks everyone. Yes I am aware of a few newspapers with Argus as part of their name.
Oh well, back to the drawing board, good thing I am not too attached to the name yet!

Have you considered another Scottish name? Maybe Hamish, Campbell, Alastair, Finlay?
~Supernova~
I don't like Argus, or Angus for that matter. As per pp, it reminds me of steak...

Argus is a many-eyed monster in Greek mythology. I don't think that sits well as a child's name. wacko.gif

I don't like Argus, for none of the reasons stated, I just think it's too harsh as a name.
I don't mind Angus.
MelbChick
How about Argent? (meaning Silver)
Vanilla-Cupcakes
I don't like it sorry, it looks like a typo of angus.
Le-a
I don't mind it. Angus is a breed of cattle.

How about Arlo?
Polly Esther
It's a horrible name IMO. It makes me think of Haggus... which is horrible stuff... even if you like the taste of it, it's not exactly a nice thing to think of when you see a baby. lol.
CleverChook
A newspaper to me.

We are considering names starting with A only original.gif I love Alastair but DH is totally against it. He knows a few Alastairs that he isn't very fond of...

Some websites also state that Argus is a Danish name - meaning vigilant.

Yes, I even mistyped it as Angus in my opening post! It's why I am having doubts about it.

MelbChick I like the sound of Argent! Will see what DH think tonight original.gif

My husband is Aigars (I pronounce it Argus) but thats not how its officially pronounced.

I've only known Argus as a surname - NMS sorry.

If you're only interested in A names, how about Asher? I'm biased though as that's my DS's name wub.gif
50ftqueenie
Any 30 Rock fans out there? Argus is the name of the peacock that Jack inherits when Don Geis dies. For this reason I like it.

(For the life of me I struggle to remember the PIN to enter DD's daycare and yet little "facts" like this stay with me! Aaaargh!)

Also like PP's suggestion of Argent.
Babushka Doll
We own a 'Angus' LOVE LOVE LOVE it (obviously!)

Dont' like Argus - sorry!

Ditto. I quite like it.

I really like Argus but I agree, it looks like a typo of Angus - I think you'd be forever correcting people.

Argent is pretty cool too original.gif
Kwyjibo
I quite like it.

But being a Brit, it's far too close to Argos for me to even think about using it.

I like August or Ambrose more than Argus by a considerable margin.

Or you could work on your DH accepting Alistair or Alasdair. wink.gif

We have a Fergus, but since you only want A names, then that's not much help. I don't much like Argus or Angus or Aengus (the spelling that a kid at school has, poor thing always correcting people).

My grandfathers were both A names: Athol (which is cool and unusual) and Alexander

August was actually what DH came up with first, but I was worried about baby boy being teased about it (eg. August? Why not September? or Were you born in August??) I am rather attached to the nn of Gus but fussy DH doesn't like Augustus or Augustine.

Athol doesn't gel with DH's last name and love love love Alexander but alas, way too many Alexes in our social circle.

Hmmmm...NMS.

Argus is the name of our town's newspaper.

I don't think August is a particular burden to bear, the girls named May, June, and April seem to mostly manage well. If you don't like it don't do it, but I wouldn't worry about the tease factor much personally.

If you love Alexander, you could call him one of the tons of other NNs? Xander, Sandy, Lex, Alec...? There's a lot of them. I grew up calling my brother Alexei and Alyosha (NEVER SASHA) but those are pretty Russian. Without going there there's still lots of choices.
