Geoff - husband!

Cohan - our 16 month old son original.gif

Starts 11:30pm on the 25/1

Had been to acupuncture earlier, where i had some stuff done to help ripen the body for labour .. i felt pressure at the top of my stomach but nothing over the top ..

Came home, rocked on the fitball.. pottered around and didnt doo much

Ran myself a bath (first one with out Cohan), and popped some epsom salts, lavender essential oil, orange and rosemary in and soaked away for 45 mins.. the occasional tightening but not much happening.

Hopped out, did a VE on myself.. couldnt reach cerix but HEAPS of fluffy white mucous... heaps.. mmm interesting i thought..(have been losing plug and mucous bits since 32 weeks)

Went to bed, where i was having trouble getting comfy.. the pulled muscle in my pubic bone area was making it hard, so i decided at 11:30 to get up and take some pain killers..

Took 2x steps out of bed, and had a gush... and then another step and another gush.. went ot the loo and checked my pad (first time i had put one in ALL pregnancy!!) it was full, and i had a whole heap of slime there too..

YAY it was finally happening - changed pads, came bac and lay down.. waited and was getting tightenings..

woke up Geoff and told him it wasnt too bad, and to go get another half hours sleep and that i would potter around, but he got up straight away.. the car needed petrol and we had to get onto our worker...

by 12am, they were 5 - 7 mins apart ish..

Did another VE - and felt my cerix had dropped, could feel the edge of my cervix and what felt like bulging membranes..

kept pottering around getting stuff ready to put in the car, and i called my mum, geoffs mum, the hospital.. decided NOT to go to local hospital first to get the ABs, but to go straight to Geoffs mums and drop off Cohan

Left home at 12:38am - and the contractions were around 3 mins, i called up the MIL and im like your going ot have to meet us at the hospital ... its too quick

by 1am, they were about 2 mins apart and intense.. no rest - im telling Geoff ' just get me to the hospital.. i dont care how fast you go " .... so that made for a funtrip haha he told me later he got upto 150km/h - and did 110km/h thru the town of Port Fairy ! No cops thank heavens..

met his parents on the side of the road at 1:30am, put the stuff for Coh into the car, and cohan - who had been a BLOODY CHAMP.. and had laughed at me at one stage when a particular strong contraction had me swearing!

We kept going, got into the emergency department, then taken upto the midwifery - where i walked (no wheelchair)

every 1 - 2 mins at this stage and intense.. get in, they did a check.. my BP was high, and they were intense, i was having trouble concentrating and breathing, so i asked for the gas on the lowest setting.. Geoff was FANTASTIC.. reminding me ot breath deep, helping me visualise, tleling me i could do it.. that we WERE doing it etc..

They did a VE to check what was happening, and found that i was dilated, but that membranes were bulging and hadnt truely broken.. so they did an ARM - which flooded the bed! it was running off the side of the bed, onto the floor.. down to my knees andup my nac - there was HEAPS.. then BANG.. it amped up even more and i had the urge to push. said i was 7-8 cm dilated.

Was freaking out, they were telling me that i could push soon and i couldnt get my head around it, im going no no no im only 8cm .. and they are going well, you told us that you checked your cervix at 9, it was high.. its happening fast, a few more contractions and it will get to 10 and you will be ready to push..

Im starting to freak out, as once the waters were broken it was just.. no breathing room, i was starting to hyperventilate.. so they amped up the gas a little, and i worked on counting up the breathes with the gas, as i worked thru a contraction.. so Geoff counting out loud slow to help me measure out my breath and then once it peaked id drop the gas and count backwards down out of it..

After they broke my waters, i scooted to the edge of the bed, sitting on the side.. and i had heatpacks on my back and a couple under my belly - just rocked thru them with holding geoffs hand and the gas.. then got down on my feet and turned around and supported myself on the bed and rocked.. managed to do that for about 5 mins, but was starting to feel pushy .. and they were asking me what position i wanted to give labour in - im going " i dont know i don tknow " .. ended up hopping back up on the bed, and putting the bedhead part up, then havin gpillows in front to support myself, gas and Geoff at my head, my back to the middies..

I was pushing, but i didnt want to rush it.. i was remembering in the back of my mind about how i tore wih cohan.. and as a result prob slowed down my pushing time.. but oh well !

Pushing pushing pushing.. hurrrr forgot how much it burned - im ROARING, gripping Geoffs hand and thinking WHY THE HECK did i decide to have another baby hahaha

Oh - and i was singing Johnny cash " ring of fire" between contractions hahaha I CAUGHT IT ON TAPE ! The head popped out, and i reached back and felt it .. nawww.... and then we waited for another contraction..and waited.. and waited - it finally hit, and they worked out that she was stuck by her shoulders, so whilst im pushing they are twisting and jiggling her to get her to come loose - HOLY sh*t.. im ROARING and screaming... that bit was worse than the head.. felt like my uretha was tearing!

She was delivered - YAY.. omg the relief.. she was VERY blue, and they cut the cord (Geoff cut it) right away and took her over to the table, rubbed her and sucked some mucous out and gave her oxygen.. took her a bit to make some noise too .. but she cried awww..

The lovely middie Melissa started working on me ASAP.. because i had PPH with Coh, they basically gae me 2x syntocin in the canula, one in the leg.. she was pushing down hard on my uterus which was contracting, and slowly tugging the placenta out via the cord... i could feel and see blood starting to squirt out, and the look on her face didnt help! Delivered the placenta after a couple of minutes, and felt a hot rush.. looked a the the midwife and she was frowning.. not a good feeling !

She called in the OB, and they gave me more stuff.. something called Ergot ? and some mifesprostral (?), and then some tablets up my bum.. Eventually it slowed to a trickle.. but geez, between the ARM fluids, and then this.. i was literally lying in a bed of fluid and bloodChecked me out and declared i needed some stitches, so she popped the local in for those and stitched me up - that was no problem.. not even painful or hurting! Geoff was having skin to skin contact with Quinn .

Quinn was really mucousy, to the point where Geoff had to put her on her side and drain mucous from her mouth sad.gif poor bubs.. We offered her boob, but she wasnt interested.. so i said to wait whilst they finished attending me and ill try again soon.. the photographer was taking pics (she missed the birth) and then we tried again.. and she almost dysoned off my nipple! Not bad, as the middies were telling me allow 24 - 48 hours for her to get her attchment right because of how slow she was to come around after the birth..

Weighed and measured her -

9lb 13oz (4.45kg), 53 cm long and 36.5cm head circ Everyone was shocked when they announced 9lb 13.. im still on the bed, and im going no way.. no way.. your joking right? They all crowded around and looked, and sure enough! She had done a poo as well, during the labour - she had some merconium around her bum.. or it could have been when they were rubbing her trying to get her to pink up? not sure, but when she was weighed there was poop there, and she did a wee on the scales original.gif

Snuggles later, the photographer had a snuggle.. i needed to get off the bed, as i was lying in a wet bed, and it had been nearly 2 hours since the birth - the photographer left, Geoff went to go get the main suitcase with my clothes in it, and i slowly walked (with the drip) to the shower.. and then washed myself! WAS SO PROUD! And i did a wee.. haha.. Told Geoff as soon as he got back.. im sure he was quite excited for me !When ever i stood up, i had to hold mys tomach.. the feeling of my organs all sliding back down into place, and the odd feeling of my stomach having room again made me feel nauseous.. and i literally had to hold my jelly belly up to give me relief

Stood up and dried off - got Geoff to do my legs as i was a bit shakey wobbly.. and then got dressed, and they popped me in a wheelchair and took me to my private room - ahhh man it was bliss to lie down !At this stage it would have been around 6 ish? in the morning.. Geoff and I were a bit shocked, and we sent out the announcement sms original.gif

Interestingly enough - Quinn means 5 - shes the 5th generation female Dragon, shes the 5th grandchild, and she is a total number 5 !

absolutely could not agree with you more - it was scary, and definately not a trip i wish to take again! (and i feel sick when i think about it)

My lovely hubby didnt drive the entire way at those speeds - open country roads where he knew the road is where we reached top speeds.. Generally the trip was done at around 110km/h in a 100km/h zone - me being a PPH risk and hemorrhaging last time meant it was pretty much we had to get to the hospital as it was progressing much faster than anyone had anticipated!

The joys of living over 125km from your birthing hospital!

She's gorgeous. Love the name (and the meaning behind it too). Congrats original.gif
KristyMum-
Congratulations!

PS I had to check out the thread as my Quinn is fifth born for me too original.gif

I was thinking 'fast' as in minutes when I read the thread title but a couple of hours labour is a definately good length for not the first-born, nice work.
Enjoy your time with your new addition original.gif

(eta yikes at the speeds too - if PPH was that much of a risk then why wait at home?)

We left home 30 ish mins after the first contraction really hit (not just a tightening) - which included packing, toileting, getting our son up and contacting the worker.. silly of me but i assumed it would take a LOT longer than it did after i had a 10 hr labour with my first!
So, when (if) the time comes for baby #3 for us.. we will change tactics - and not run that risk again

Congratulations! Quinn is beautiful.
