Ok what is your experience with this IUD.

i have just had my 2nd one put in.
first one:
lasted 4 years, was awesome, then i started bleeding like i do without them so had it changed over early under drs advice.
Piece of cake to remove, had 2nd one put in straight away. bit of spotting etc and normal periods again like i did at the start of the first one, hoping they will go away entirely again

no side effects, no remembering anything

awesome contraception

I had mine for just short of 4 years. It was fine, but not my fav contraception. I had mild cramping and spotting most months, and gained some weight with it. It was similar in side effects to implanon which I had after.
It did hurt to remove, but having just had a baby, it hurt less then a lot of the things assoc with that!
I wouldn't get one again, last was using the nuva ring, which I loved. Will be back on that band wagon when I stop BF.

I had one putin at my 6 week check up after DD in Jan 2006. Had it removed a year later and fell pregnant with DS within a month. Had another put in after DS and have had it in 4 yrs.
Only pain when going in was a little period pain when it was in with spotting. I don't get periods with it with is FANTASTIC!!!!
Didn't really feel anything when the first one was taken out.
Ill be going back for another in a years time when its time to for a new one

I hated mine- it made me moody, irrational and depressed. I also had break through bleeding almost all the time, and much heavier periods.
I only had it 4 months, so maybe it would have settled down, but the suicidal thoughts were scaring me, I've never had them before, or since the Mirena.
My Gynae said being moody was part of motherhood, so didn't record my reactions as side effects, something I've heard happening very often.
I'm not good with any hormonal contraception- the pill gives me migraines etc, so maybe I'm more prone to adverse reactions than others.
It didn't hurt to have inserted or removed. I did get some pretty severe cramps within an hour or so of it being inserted, but they settled down.

Mine perforated my uterus, I had it removed via keyhole surgery and was advised not to have another.

I had constant backaches and bled on and off for months until it expelled itself...which hurt like buggery...
Tried the copper IUD, no side effects or anything ,was great but my body expelled that one after about 6months...
I am extremely sensitive to the hormones in the pill, it makes me a crazy lady, but Im on the public waiting list for a tubal ligation....In Perth which could mean yrs waiting I'm guessing...Im trying the Nuva ring next...As I said...The pill makes me horribly moody cranky and stabby...I wish I could leave myself in another room sometimes :/

I had mine removed on Monday to TTC#3 after being in 3.5yrs. I had mine inserted at 6 week checkup after birth of DS2. After having two natural births i didnt think it was too bad getting it in, but after i had bad cramping for 12 hours.
For the first six or so months I spotted most of the time and felt like I was going crazy.I felt very depressed and am positive it wasnt PND. It did settle after this but I still got quite bloated alot of the time and a bit more snappy than usual and My DH said it has definately effected libido but I think that comes with having 2 kids
My GP had trouble locating strings and I had to have an ultrasound then have it removed. I found it painful and have had spotting and cramps since and don't feel myself. I have done some research and have found some other people calling it 'mirena withdrawal'
I definately wont be getting another one even though I loved not having AF after spotting finally stopped.

I am on my third.
Each time I had them put in for insanely heavy periods and I would have had a hysterectomy otherwise. They worked REALLY well for a couple of years. Then I had more bleeding and had the first two taken out for that same reason, dysfunctional bleeding.
I have just had my third put in and my first period after was soooooooo much better.....
a bit painful for a second when she dilated my cervix to put it in. I don't; remember if it hurt to take out, but it clearly was not too bad or I would have remembered!

Same but for 5 years, although once I had it removed my period has been really heavy, which is very unusual for me.
I only had it removed because my DH has had a vas so it wasn't needed anymore, but I was happy with it.

I had 2 attempts at Mirena insertion about 12 weeks post birth, both failed, inserted no worries but would not stay in - even though my pregnancy was fine. somewhat painful experience, VERY TRAUMATIC experience, not going there again. Just started my first Nuvaring - 12 days in so far so good.
Good luck, hope this is useful.....

I had mine taken out yesterday after being in for 6 months. It hurt a little going in but absolutely no pain coming out. It made me moody, very bad period pain all month long, bad migraines and I put on 11kgs despite being on strict diet and exercise plan. Oh I also got a bacterial infection. Nice!
I loved mine, had it inserted 8 weeks post birth in April 2003 and it stayed in for 5 yrs.
Insertion was no worse than a pap smear really, maybe a bit pinchier.
Only side affect was no period... So a good thing, although I did get the odd bout of spotting for a day or so.
It also didn't affect breastfeeding, ds happily breastfeed past 12 mths.
Come April 2008, I knew it was time to have it removed. My gp wasn't qualified to do it and it was going to take weeks to get into my gynae to get him to do it, plus $100 or so.
So I googled removing it myself, it seemed easy enough and lots of people had taken their's out. Sitting on the toilet a few days later, I fished around, found the strings, tugged on them and it slid out easily and painlessly.
Period returned within the month, decided to throw caution to the wind and give my body a break from contraception, best thing we ever did, I now have my dd.
Tossed around the idea of getting another, but just haven't bothered. I track my cycle quite successfully and am good at avoiding fertile times, so I don't feel the need for contraception, my only reason for getting it in the first place was because I couldn't track my cycle whilst breastfeeding and didn't want a 3rd child so close as my first 2.

And there it is out and cleaned up.

I've had mine 4 years and I love it, no remembering (forgetting in my case) the pill, and no period! Win/win!

I had one put in under a GA Monday last week. I also had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy D & C with it, so not sure which side effects are from what. I spotted for a few days after and have just started spotting again but am due for my period so am assuming that is what it is as I have period type pains. I can honestly say that my moods have been much better, I am conscious of being happier from day to day.
I had terribly heavy periods and was very hormonal all month before. I would have two ok weeks but after shocking ovulation pain very month, I would bloat so much and be grumpy for the next two weeks. Often my clothes were far too tight to wear in the weeks before my period. Haven't had that trouble so far.
I was very anxious about having it put in as I had so much trouble with the pill and was worried about all the side effects I have read about, but so far so good. Early days though, so will not get to excited yet.

No pain on insertion or removal (but I have the world's dodgiest cervix so no surprises there).
I spotted the entire time it was in (about 8 months) so had it removed.

Kim: I was wondering if you could remove it your self! Ihad it put in over two weeks ago.
All is good but bleeding very lightly everyday...not sure what to make of that...
