Hi, I am new to this forum. I stumbled across this forum when I tried to find out more about Pregnyl 5000. I just had my first injection today - not 100% sure of what it actually does to my body. I did what I was told. Here's a summary of my life so far:

- Diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago. Have been on Glucopharge XR since then.
- Spontaneous pregnancy 3 years ago - 5-6 weeks pregnant. Took 1 year to overcome it. sad.gif
- Irregular period of up to 3 months. My regular cycle is about 40 days.
- Seek professional help in June 2011 to conceive.
- 2nd cycle of CLOMID. First cycle didn't work.
- 2nd cycle - CLOMID dosage up from 75mg to 100mg.
- First Pregnyl 5000 trigger injection today (30/10/11). Two more to go next week.

Question: What does the injection do? What can I expect from here? I don't want to go through another CLOMID cycle. How much does IVF cost?

I'm not on it yet, but from what I can tell, it tricks your body into believing you're pregnant and thefore more likely to implant etc? Not sure though, as I haven't been on it. I will be this cycle, I believe (I've been disappointed about the lack of information my clinic is giving me about what's coming next. I've done a lot of research, though, as I'm curious about this kind of thing by nature. But now I get why a lot of my friends who've been through this have no idea about it all. I wish the clinics gave more info).

Maybe someone who has been on it can assist. But I wanted to wish you good luck!

I had Pregnyl as both a Trigger before an EPU and also for luteal support. Basically it mimics the hormones of pregnancy so you start getting bigger boobs, fluid retention, increased body temp, etc, and it also can extend your luteal phase before AF arrives. This was good for me b/c I usually ovulated later in my cycle (day 17-19) of a 28 day cycle. Just don't POAS when you're on it b/c you could get a false + reading.

Hi,

I don't have much experience with it, but I'll add my bit in....I'm doing my first Pregnyl injection tonight - to trigger ovulation for a frozen cycle. It will make me ovulate (in 24-36 hours), and then they can transfer my blastie 5 days after...

You'd really need to get prices from your clinic or FS about how much IVF will cost - as there are so many different options, and everything varies so much. But at a rough stab, you'll be up for around $10000K (get about $5000K from Medicare!)...and maybe some back from PHI if you have it...

Hope that helps!

My clinic is a lot cheaper for IVF - around $3500 after Medicare I believe. ... plus initial costs/ testing/ specialist fees etc.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I am just working out the cost because each CLOMID cycle costs around $500 inclusive of medication. But how many times should I go on CLOMID before deciding if I should go for IVF?

I feel so much better knowing that I am not the only one having difficulty to conceive even with professional help! And wherever I am, I am always surrounded by pregnant women -- and thinking when will it be my turn? *sigh*

You should only use Clomid for a maximum of 6 cycles, ever.

Has you DH had a SA, or any other testing? What about yourself?

Hello all,

I am back after such a long absence. I have stopped CLOMID after the second cycle and went for a short holiday. Just needed to get away and think about things. original.gif

We've decided to head straight to IVF (with ICSI) and skip the IUI altogether. original.gif I just had my egg collection yesterday. 9 were collected, 7 were good. 4 with insemination, 3 with ICSI. Hopefully I get more good news today and planned for embryo transfer on Monday. Meanwhile I am feeling really flat and extremely bloated. blink.gif

Wish me luck. unsure.gif

Good luck! My fingers are crossed that your embryoes keep doing their thing original.gif

I found the yogurt with live cultures helps with the bloating.

Thanks spitzmum. Had my transfer yesterday. It went ok, was a little nervous. Out of the 5 eggs, 1 was put back inside. 2 didn't look like its going to make it and 2 look like a possibility to be frozen. They will continue to monitor and ring me back on on Thursday if it's fine.

So, today is day #2 of the transfer, i am feeling ok. However I have been advised to take it easy for the next 1-2 weeks. First two days means its resting time and lie down as much as possible. I had trouble sleeping on my back last night. LOL! I am side sleeper. Although the Dr. said I can continue with normal chores, light exercise, continue to work and carry on -- I am hesitant. I have asked for a week off from work. My DH did all the cooking and cleaning last night and will do so for the next two weeks. How nice! Love it.

So for today - I will be a couch potato catching on some movies. original.gif *Fingers crossed* hope for the good news.

Just a quick update to everyone... My 2ww ended yesterday and it was negative. I didn't have any HPT. But I knew it wasn't going to be successful when I got my period two days before although it was very light. Looks like I will start my 2nd cycle soon. sad.gif
