I'm sure my bub doesn't need as much sleep as what all the books (e.g. sleep right, sleep tight) say. He has 1 to 2 naps a day, usually either two 1hr ones, or lately 1 1-1.5hr nap and a 20min catnap at around 4:30pm. He's waking heaps at night though, and I keep trying to encourage the morning nap at about 10am, but sometimes he just refuses, then after an early lunch goes down easily at about 12pm.
Is his night waking due to too much sleep (worse with long am nap (1.25hr) and shorter pm nap (40min-1hr), or not enough. I've tried to figure it out.
I don't really want to do CC again, but I think I may have to. He can be so inconsistent, even though we have a pretty good routine, and I put him down at about 7pm-7:15pm.
All I think about is how much sleep, what will he do tonight. I should be strong and not feed him during the night - he's not really hungry most of the time.
i don't know what to do anymore, everytime I start to work him out, he changes. Everytime I almost eliminate his night feeding and waking, he starts up again.
I need some encourement and advice, anyone do CC to stop night feeds/waking and still b/F an 11m.o? What if my supply drops? I've always pretty much demand fed him.
Help...

I have a crappy sleeper too. I decided a little while ago to drop the night feeds as well, (she is now eleven months) I was surprised it only took one night where she cried and I cuddled her (I was paranoid she would feel deserted) and after that she just couldn't be bothered! She does still wake during the night, but normally just a pat and a bit of reassurance is enought to resettle her. She definately sleeps much better, and longer than before. At my last MCHN check in, she said they should have about 14 hours of sleep all up in a 24 hour period, and Charley has about that much most days.
Good luck! I think what pushed me to stop the night feeds was that I was having jack-all sleep anyway, a few nights of really crap sleep wouldn't do me any harm.

Hi there,

My dd is only 10months so if my info sounds irrelevant - just ignore it!

I started a while ago only offering water at night when DD woke and then when she got really persistent I had to sit up from 3am a couple of nights. Then I realised if I fed her food I knew she would eat (really fussy eater) at dinner and kept feeding until she refused so she was as full as could be, she slept through better! So I give her dinner food at lunch sometimes so that I can feed her yoghurt and fruit etc at dinner and fill her up.

I find DD only sleeps about 2 hours during the day as well. This may be a long sleep and a cat nap or two hour long sleeps. She does sleep well at night though for 12 hours now.

I hope you get some good sleep soon!
