We are looking at buying a 3 bedroom house. The master bedroom is ok- big enought to fit a queen bed. But we are a bit worried about bedroom 1 & 2. They are only 3.7m x 2.5m and 3.7m x 2.8m. They both have built in robes. Can anyone show me a picture of a bedroom this size that you have with the furntiure in it?

I'm torn between thinking the rooms will be sufficent enough or they will be no good as our DS gets older (and we plan to have another one in around 3 years).

TIA

we had a house with bedrooms for the girls about this size, was perfect while they were small, not so sure as teenagers they would have been big enough, as long as the door and the robes are in the right place they are fine. If it's just a bed and a bookcase or desk you want in there they are ok! In one of ours we needed a chest of draws and a wardrobe and it was too cosy!

How high are the ceilings?
DS room is 3x3 which is smaller than both of yours. It also has a build in robe (this is a lifesaver). It is fine for him, although he doesn't spend heaps of time playing in there - prefers to spread his toys out in the lounge! He doesn't like being on his own so would do this regardless of how big his room was.
The reason I ask about ceilings is if it is high when they get to be teenagers you can put in loft beds. That gives a whole heap more floor space with room for a couch and desk etc. That's what we plan to do eventually.

My DD has a room that's about 2m x 2.5m. She has a bookcase and a tallboy for her clothes. She also has her bed, a side table with drawers and a big dollhouse. I'm about to get some storage containers that will slide under the bed. As she gets older I move the dollhouse out and put a small desk in it's place, get a more space efficient bookcase (as she'll be taller too) and also a taller tallboy. I don't think your DS's room sounds too small at all.

ETA: there's no wardrobe/cupboard or built-in's in her room, so all her clothes are in her tallboy and school uniforms and coats hang on hooks on the back of her door. She loves her bedroom original.gif

Hi

Our two kids bedrooms are slightly smaller than yours and we also have built in robes. So in DD1 who is 4, her room has her king single bed and a bookcase plus all her toys - we are saving to buy a low line loft bed so she can put all her toys underneath the bed and use the space underneath the bed as a cubby.

DD2, is only a baby so no space issues.

We have no issues with the small rooms as it is the house in the area we wanted.

I agree with a pp - it depends on the positioning of the door, window and built in wardrobe. Our small 2.5 x 3.5 room can house the same furniture as my daughter's 3.5 x 3 room because of the configuration.

My DD used to have a small room like that and to complicate matters it did not have a wardrobe and had windows all along two of the walls.

In the end we bought her a wardrobe and a loft bed that had a table under it that you pulled out and a small chest of draws that fitted underneath and a bookcase that ran along the side of it. This way all her toys, books etc could go under the bed and not take up any extra floor space.

Our study (which was the nursery and a shared room for DS1 and DS2 for a while) is 3.4 x 2.6, no built-in robe.

Edited to fix links but I think it was just photobucket being weird, eh.

Those rooms sound big to me esp. with the built in robes!

Our son's bedroom (and our study or bedroom 4) are both tiny- 3m X 2.6m and with no built in robes!

His room has a single bed, chest of drawers, tall cupboard and a bookcase in it! No, not much floor space but then we do have 3 living areas one of those is his playroom which stores most of his toys!

How many living spaces does this house have? If it has at least two living spaces then it doesnt matter really how big the bedrooms are -and they sound perfectably acceptable esp with all the storage.

Those sounds like pretty average sized bedrooms to me original.gif My 20yr old, 6ft tall, brother still lives in a room that size now (he had a smaller room when there was still 5 kids at home) LOL He sleeps in a single bed, mostly so he can fit his computer/guitar/desk/bookcase in the room LOL He also has some shelves that dad put in one of the corners yrs ago to put a cd player on, the low shelf is about 5ft off the floor (about my eye level) & then there is one up higher that I can only just reach.

My parents never really let us use our bedrooms for socialising, they were only for sleeping/study/relaxing alone. They have a great, all weather, outdoor area & also a pool so there was plenty of room for friends without cramming into bedrooms.
Maybe this is something you could consider if you plan to stay in the house for a long time.

If a 20yr old can manage in a room that size then I think they will be fine for your family original.gif
