Hiyas

My wife and I just found out today that we have twins! We have been trying for a couple of years and have had 2 miscarriages, so this is really amazing. I remember yesterday thinking, just a flash, that it was going to be twins, I guess I knew somehow!

The obs suspects they are identical from looking at the ultrasound, but we're getting another scan in a couple of weeks to hopefully find out with more certainty.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi as I'm sure we're going to need lots of help and support...both our families are pretty much non-existant so it's going to be interesting times ahead.

Congratulations! I hope your wife has a very smooth pregnancy. Feel free to pop in here and ask as many questions as you like. original.gif

Wow, thankyou all for the kind words original.gif

We're both still in a bit of shock to be excited about it right now. The first thing I said when the doctor told us was 'but we only wanted one!', but then I couldn't stop smiling after that biggrin.gif When my wife buys things, she always buys in pairs (2 vases, 2 mugs, 2 lamps, etc), so it's all her fault hehehe Tounge1.gif

There're pros and cons I guess, it's going to be harder on every level, emotional, financial, physical, etc, but hopefully the rewards will make up for all that. Being our first birth (touch wood) we're going to have to learn everything to do with that as well.

I do have one question, can we ask to have a c-section? My wife is under the impression that it is up to the obstetrician. Being in a high risk group (40yo) I think it would be a better way to go.

Congratulations and welcome!

Ask lots of questions - we love it! Talk to your OB about c/s. If you are going private it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Wishing you both and long and boring pregnancy original.gif

Thanks again original.gif

My wife is getting really bad morning sickness, it's going 24/7 though sad.gif she is not actually throwing up, but just nauseous (which is kinda of worse, at least once you've thrown up you usually feel better). The only way to alleviate it is to either eat or drink. But it's still very annoying for her. It's a good thing she is not working, as it is debilitating. Just hoping that it will go away soon :confuse:

Hope her m/s goes away soon it is not a very nice thing IMO. I had it for about 8 weeks but was only sick when I got out of bed so it wasn't too bad and there wasnt anything to throw up. With my first pg I was sick 24/7 and unfortunately was sick for 9 months, was fine during the last month and 10 days. The advise I got was to eat a dry biscuit before you even lift your head up, then have a tea. Also apple wih no skin also helps, well did for me anyway.
I found taking folate made my m/s worst but taking elevit didnt. HTH

Hi everyone

We had our 12 weeks ultrasound and the results of the neck thickness test (not the technical term for it! lol)for Downs were good and we're happy with that.

Unfortunately, they couldn't tell us if our twins are identical or not, well not with any certainty anyway. There is one placenta and 2 sacs with a membrane in the middle. She is pretty confident that they are from two eggs, but couldn't be sure...this kind of changed things for us as we thought they are identical, but now there is the possibility of chromosome type problems with one twin but not the other...something we had not considered at all. But we have had a talk about it and we are OK with what decisions we may have to face. Mind you all these tests and talk about potential problems is really very negative thinking, as the chances of an abnormal baby are so low...MOST babies are healthy!

My wife has been bursting into tears a bit lately, it's been hard as sometimes I don't even know what the problem is...I can see that the weeks ahead are going to be very trying. The truth is I'm usually pretty selfish, so when I catch myself being like that I have to remind myself to snap out of it and just put my own things aside and be there for her as she really needs me right now.

The morning sickness is still there, we're hoping it will go away soon and not hang around for the whole pregnancy.

What a nice husband you sound like. I think with your support she will be just fine despite all the morning sickness twins bring and the hormones that are working doubly overtime on your poor girl.

I agree with you, most babies are healthy, try not to worry about that now, just think positive, wow your having two babies!!! Congratulations!!!

They can also do a blood test around 16 weeks and 12 weeks to go along with the scan results, they are pretty good to give you peace of mind. I had the scan, blood test at 12 weeks and 16 weeks and the results came back all good. Hope we find them correct in 11 weeks 6 days time. Either way we already love this little baby, (we are having one baby) and are eager to meet this beautiful little person inside. I am soooo jealous of you people who get to bring home two babies, rofl. Enjoy your happy times ahead. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
