Hi,
this is my first post. My husband and I found out a few days ago that we are expecting twins. Wow! We are only 12 weeks, but as these are our first I am now feeling the pressure to get organised - before I get too big to do much! Can anyone help with some advice on what to get done before they arrive, or before I get too big to move (when does that happen? original.gif)How many nappies, bonds suits etc will I need before they arrive? Any suggestions and experiences shared would be fantastic, as it is all new to me!
Thanks, WA mum to be!
~Catherine~
Congratulations to you and your DH. Well you need all the essentials like 2 cots, pram, change table etc. I also brought boxes of newborn huggies when they were on special like $30 I think I had 2 or 3 before they were born and depending on season then some clothes, singlets, socks etc. Hope this helps.
The only thing that was put upon me was not to have pram in house until babies were born. I know old wives take but 2 people we know that did have the pram in house had m/c so was one i followd

Hi and congratulations!

Another WA Mum here. I second (or third) buying nappies in advance. Other than that, its probably a good time to start reseraching your big purchases - cots, carseats, pram etc. Highchairs can wait a while yet. Wondersuits are a must for most bubs, you can start stocking up on them and wraps etc when there is sale on!

Then there's the other things like - where are we going to put them? Is the car big enough, etc, etc?

Also, I am a Parent Contact with the Perth & Districts Multiple Birth Assoc. We are having an Expectant Parent Meeting on 3 Dec - please consider yourself and your husband invited! Just PM me for details. The next one will be in Feb if you can't make this one. You don't need to be a member to come along.

Hope to chat with you soon - keep the questions coming, we all know how overwhelming it can be!

Thank you all for your help. I picked up a copy of Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryans book - Twins, a practical guide.... I havent been able to put it down! It seems to have everything there to answer all my questions.
I am SOR, and have contacted the state MBA regarding membership, so I will possibly run into one/all of you in the near future!
Thanks again for the support.

Congratulations! You must be feeling very excited!

I agree with suggestions already posted. Before my boys arrived we had their room set up; cots, change table, double stroller, nappies and wipes at the ready! We bought some clothes (mainly 000 with some 0000) such as singlets, socks, grow-suits and bunny rugs. We also had bought 2 car seats and had these fitted in the car (actually the fitting happened while I was in hospital with the boys!) We did these things gradually throughout the pregnancy- don't try to overdo things as the main thing for you to do is relax and grow your bubs. I know that it's good to get these things happening though as otherwise you'll have it on your mind. Write yourself a list and start to work though it.

It takes some time to decide upon cots, change tables etc. I went to a shop called Baby Bunting (in Victoria- so not much help to you sorry) with my list and spoke to a lady who worked there. She showed me everything and went through all the pros and cons etc. I rang a few places to compare prices but Baby Bunting offered me a twin discount and I was happy with their prices and service. I went with my husband and we bought everything on our list.

I actually found it really fun and exciting getting everything ready for our babies. We did most of it when I was about halfway along I guess as I had finished working by then. Good luck,
Maycee

HI There,
First of all congratulations! What an amazing, exciting, a little scary, a little overwhelming at times but always rewarding & wonderful time of your life!
I agree with what has already been said but thought I would add my own list too....
First get all the sleep, rest, massages you can!! LOL...I was so exhausted towards the end of my pregnancy...(I made it to 36 weeks) I actually fell asleep while having my legs waxed when I was 34 weeks!!! LMAO...
Then I would recommend that you cook up a storm & make things that you can grab out of the freezer & just re-heat for dinners...Casseroles, spag bolognaise, lasagna etc...Something that is quick & easy to re-heat when & if you are tired or have to deal with 'witching hour'...
If you have a baby shower...Maybe write up some 'gift certificates' that people could pick out of a hat that say things like 'Cook & drop off dinner for us' 'Hang washing out one day' 'Do a basket of ironing' etc....Alot of my local friends & family did this for me which helped alot! The girls are nearly 4 months old now & I have only now just started to do my ironing myself again!
Have fun Lovie and good luck with rest of your pregnancy journey!
Take care,
Jaki

i have only one piece of new advice, we bought everything for my son from babyco, he is now just 17 mths old and everything except the carseat has broken, the change tables wheels have been replaced about 3 times and the top changed twice, the cot clip to keep it up keeps popping off and the pram is so wobbly i used it for a week before buying a new one as the loan one they offered while they were going to repair mine was covered in vomit.
i would say for basics like carseats/cots/etc wait till target or k-mart have a good sale as they all need to meet standards, but the pram (being twins) i would go to a specialty shop which stocks known brands ie valco emmanjulunga etc not their own concoctions. long post sorry but would hate for anyone to spend a mint on rubbish like i did.
