little old lady
CleverChook
23/04/2011, 12:10 PM
Old lady, sure, but in a good way. It's my Dad's twin sister's name. I love it, and I quite like Ren as a nickname.
Mille-Mille
23/04/2011, 12:10 PM
It's nice :-)

23/04/2011, 12:10 PM
Exquisite.
but avoid Rens and Flos.

I have to respond because I really quite like it. It might nearly be on my 'love' list.
I don't like the nickname Flo though - that's definitely little old lady.

Only good if you use the nickname, Flossie.

Beautiful! I would consider it myself if I was having another.

My initial thoughts are the band Florence and the Machine, the town I don't particularly like (which is actually called Firenze in Italian, which sounds better IMO), and Aunt Flo, a nickname I couldn't get past. I do think Flossie is cute, though.

I like it. It's on our shortlist for girls. I like the nickname Flossie too.

23/04/2011, 12:28 PM
nice, Florrie is a cute NN too.
The first thought that popped into my head was Florence Nightingale, then Florence and the machine both of which I like..

What nn would you use?
I'm not adverse to the name itself, but my answer to your question relies on the nn, lol.

That has be stumped...go against the grain and not shorten it maybe?
Craptacular
23/04/2011, 12:40 PM
I love it, but hate the nicknames Flossie and Floss. Flo isn't too good either. Ren is pretty funky. So I only like the name in it's entirety.

Hmmm .... only okay as Florence but no nn
But it just isn't anwhere near as stunning as your other children's names imo

Entering trendy territory I think. But the style suits.

Just gorgeous! Not a fan of any of the nn's I can think of though..

For a while I liked it a little more than I do now but I'm not really keen on it. It is ok though.

Don't like Florence, too Henderson and Bjelke Peterson for my liking.

No. I think of Aunt Flo.

It's not my personal style but I don't mind it. It's certainly distinctive
P.S. Is this just a general question or have I missed a BFP announcement???

You've missed a BFP announcement.
I like Florence. But it seems a little lacklustre with the other three girls' names.

I'm not a fan, but mainly because of Florence Nightingale. Also, I think there would be too much potential for Aunt Flo jokes

23/04/2011, 05:12 PM
I couldn't. I had a horse call Florence. A beautiful big lump of a thing, she was.
I don't think you have big, lumpy babies with 9 inches of cannon bone, so for me, a definite no.

Since you have no awesome nn potential, I'm voting no for this one.
Besides which, the baby is going to be Cosmo anyway, so it's a moot point.

Provided she never has any nieces and nephews and becomes 'Aunty Flo'.
Or hangs around too many machines.
My Grandmothers best friends name, her NN is Flo or Flossie.
Just makes me think little old lady.
Frances/Francesca are lovely though.

I like it, but it's a bit boring/simple for you PPT.
NMS I'm afraid because I think it is way too old fashioned. But if you love it use it, especially if it has some family significance to you. If it were me I would use it as a middle name.

Its ok, I like the NN Florrie.

25/04/2011, 10:59 AM
I love it

I thought this was going to be a travel thread.
Though the nn is an issue. What about for a middle name?
I like Frances with Chessie as a nn? Would work for Francesca too.

I love it.....but not for you. It's just not as spectacular as your other girls names. Plus, I think you need an 'a' ending name. I know pattern naming is a bit naff but Florence is kind of a downer after hearing the lovely other names you have.
"I have four daughters, Raphaella, Theodora, Philomena...and Florence"
It just doesn't have the swoonworthyness about it I'm afraid.
Aurelia is still lovely

But anway, It's a boy so it doesn't matter.

Ahhhh I love Florence! It's on our list too. Took some convincing of DH though and now he's "letting me" have it lol. It's my Grandmother's name and I think it's beautiful and elegant. Flo or Floss/Flossie for short.
I have thought about the whole Aunt Flo bizzo, but how many people actually use that? None of my friendds ever use/used it.

Agree with Harlo.
Love the Florentina suggestion, but maybe too much with Philomena. Severine is my favourite so far.
Is this baby a girl? Have I missed something?
