I just read that Ethan Hawke's wife is expecting a new baby.

I had to do a double take because his wife is called...Ryan*.

Will this boys name-stealing madness never end???!! wink.gif

*I assume it's her real name, couldn't find anything to suggest otherwise
FauxPas
That's a very mean comment and not in the Easter holiday spirit.

**EDA - above is more a reference to the "other thread" slam as I am quite certain Ryan Shawhughes will not have a chance to read the comment.

I cant say that I hate Ryan for a girls name...
mymockingbirdboy
Ryan is a gorgeous name for a girl IMO

Unfortunately, I have heard of Ryan for a girl before, Ryan Haddon. Her mother's name is Dayle, so probably not surprising.

I've heard of female Ryans before. No biggy.

An EB education indeed. I've always considered Ryan to be a particularly masculine name, especially as the origin of it means "king". Very surprised to see it used for a girl, unless I'm saying it differently: Ry-ANN perhaps? shrug.gif

Chill out, FauxPas, I didn't even mention the "other thread" (nor did I comment in it). While I do sit quite decidedly in the Elliot for a boy camp, I do actually like some boy's names for girls: my favourite name for a girl is August.
I was merely trying to generate an (ongoing) discussion on the trend of using boys names for girls.
Please note the winking smiley in my OP.

I really dislike boys names for girls, but they aren't my kids though so it's not my problem. Ryan is an adult, if she hated her name so much I am sure she would just change it, she hasn't so the name obviously doesn't bother her
mumma shazam
I like it better for a boy but I dont dislike it for a girl.
~THE~MAGICIAN~
Definitely a boys name. And one that I quite like for a BOY!

*Lena*
Dislike Ryan for a girl, in reference to the other thread I think Elliott is more of a girls name then Ryan.
Dabri
I think Ryan for a girl is very common in America. I have a female American friend whose name is Ryan.

I personally think both Ryan and Elliott are very sweet for girls.
CleverChook
I think it's not too uncommon for girls in the Southern states of the US to have family names bestowed on them, which may be masculine. So I wonder if she's from there?

Googling, I couldn't really tell, but I did see their first child together is named Clementine Jane, so hopefully the bad baby naming has ended.

It certainly then hasn't done her any harm - Ethan Hawke is pretty ok.

Its not really a trend it has always been done.
