How long was delivery of your baby able to be delayed for. I am currently 20w5d & in preterm labour. I am having meds to try to stop the contractions which so far has lessened the intensity of them but not the frequency & am 3cm dilated (the dilation has happened over the past 3 days) & my cervix has also shortened significantly - was 16mm on Tuesday but a cervical stitch was ruled out because of ongoing unexplained bleeding issues and the contractions. Some swabs they did for infection came back negative but they are giving me preventative antibiotics anyway.

So for now I am on medications & complete bed rest. Is there any chance of getting to a viable gestation & what do I expect when the time comes for them to be born, particularly with one having a low lying placenta?

Hi Peppanickel. Sorry to hear that you are going through this. I have had 4 preterm bubs but at 32-34wks. My main problem was preterm labour and pPROM. With our last baby I went into preterm labour and was put on medication. My sitation was a bit different in that I was a later gestation and a singleton pregnancy. I was about 29-30wks when I started the nifedipine. When the meds were stopped I went into preterm labour at 31 wks and my waters broke. I was then put back on the nifedipine until my BP went too low. Once it was ceased again I went into labour and our DD was born at 32wk 1 day.

I really hope and pray that the meds give you a lot of extra time. I am sorry that I cannot give you any more info or share a relevant experience. Maybe have a look at these websites:

PROM Website - More relevant to waters breaking but there are lots of stories and information.
