Hi Guys,
My friend is here for work today and just found out she will be here overnight. She needs to check out at 10am and doesn't have to be at the airport till 3.30pm. I am going to spend the day with her but I have no idea what to do as I don't think much will be open, any ideas?
I will have my car so transport isn't an issue, it will be just the two of us so 2 child free girls.

The portrait gallery is open
If the portrait gallery is open there is a great exhibition that finishes this weekend, The National Photographic Portrait Prize. You will also have the Cafe and the shop is a must. The NGA might also be open. If the weather is good you could go for a little walk along the lake too.
I don't think you will find any shops in The Canberra Centre etc open.
