Hi girls,

I didn't know where else to turn to and I am hoping someone can help me. Well after 7 IVF transfers (and 1 miscarriage)I am finally pg with twins. However i have had some bleeding incidents. At 5w5d I bleed and ran straight to my dr who did a scan. At the time 2 sacs were visible but no hearbeat. Well 1 week later 2 hearbeats were seen. Anyway today at 8w5d more bleeding and it was heavy. So I went to emergency dept of the hospital and a scan was done and again 2 babies and 2 hearbeats. My goodness I am so scared. Although everything seems ok the heavy bleeding is scaring me. Dr said that with twins the uteras stretches to fast and some women bleed. Has anyone else bleed with twins and their pg continued? Please help I am going crazy.

Thanks Doa.

Hi

My twins (now nearly 4 years old) are the result of 4 1/2 years of TTC, and were OI.

I bled on and off during my pregnancy. From memory at 7 weeks, 15 weeks, and then I was in hospital pretty often from 29 weeks, and eventually had them at 37 weeks via c-section (under a general). I always remember ringing up the hospital and telling them I was bleeding and they would ask how much. Like you measured it or something.

The most important thing you can do is to keep going to the hospital when it occurs. I did find mine occurred more when I was constipated, so I did what I had to make sure that didn't happen. I also ended up with placenta praevia which they say is what was bleeding.

Stay positive and keep getting it checked out.

Hi Doa - big congratulations on your BFP!
So sorry to hear about your bleeding, it's incredibly stressful and frightening.
After getting my BFP (ivf w/icsi) I was scheduled for my first US at 7wks. Two days before the US I had a shocking gusher of a bleed, we assumed I was miscarrying and (somehow) managed to wait the 2 days until the US. (The bleed kept going for that time). At the US we discovered the twins, who were perfectly healthy, quite a shock! They couldn't determine the cause of the bleed. I had done some pretty physical outdoor work during the week. Did they say if the source of your bleed was visible?
I took it easy from that point on, and didn't have any more bleeds until wk18, where I had a small bleed - again, no cause determined and the babies are fine.
I have been told the same thing as your Doc, (about the uterus stretching more and faster, causing bleeds).
I know of many women (with singletons) who have had recurrent bleeding during their pregnancies, and all are fine.
If you saw two good heartbeats at the US, then chances are your babies will be perfectly OK! Get lots of rest and make sure you see your Doc or contact a midwife if you are concerned about anything. I hope you have an easier 7mths to come - take care.

ps: you should join our "Expecting Multiples" group, the ladies there are great and very supportive!

Hi there.

You must be feeling very scared, but try to relax and get some rest when ever you can.

I bled at 71/2 weeks and then a few more times after that, the last was about half way through my pg. My Ob could see no reason for the bleeding and I went on to have my beautiful ICSI boys at 38 weeks.

Take care and give those little bubs in there a nice little pat original.gif

Hi girls,

Thankyou all so so so so much. I was shocked when you all replied so fast. Thanyou, thankyou, thankyou. Well at the moment the bleeeding seems to have subsided. This pregnancy is IVF/ICSI to. The untrasound guy said that he could see no reason for the bleeding. I am taking a couple of days off work. I am a teacher and teach grade 2 students. Which can be very tiring at times. I have decided that if this pg continues I will give up work at the end of the year which is in 7 weeks.

KerryMcG - did they tell you you had placenta preveria before or after you gave birth?

Thanks once again girls, it was lovely seeing all you babies pictures and ultrasounds, it gives me a lot of hope.

Well I'm off to rest again.

They didn't find the placenta praevia till they did the c-section and found it there. All the ultrasounds during my pregnancy said low but clear. Apparently it was right over. I must have had over 20 ultrasounds during my pregnancy. I was in hospital on 5 different occasions with bleeding, sometimes for 3 weeks, and even over Christmas which isn't fun, before I was admitted in the February for their birth.

I was meant to be induced but at the last minute the anaethetist said I was too much a risk for a epidural (I'm a big girl and both babies weighed 7 pound each) and so I had a general. Only afterwards they told me about the placenta praevia.

It was hard to believe all the ultrasounds, Doctors and 3 different hospitals in Canberra never detected it.

Honestly it is very common in twin pregnancies. Just don't be embarrased or ashamed going to or calling the hospital when it happens. I think I left work at 18 weeks, and just rested. Grade 2's sound a busy lot tho, gee I think I would have finished already. LOL

Hi There

I too had bleeding at 6 weeks & then again at 9 weeks. My bleeding wasnt that heavy but it concerned us because it was bright red. My Dr told me it would have been one of three things:

1 High progesterone levels can cause bleeding
2 Threatened miscarriage
3 stretching uterus

My Dr told me to lie down for 3 days as it was most likely to be a threatened miscarrriage, so i took time off work & hit the couch for 3 days. He said it also could have been the stretching thing or caused by high progesterone levels (which mine were), either way to take it easy until it passes.

I hope this helps

Cheers, Lilymurray

Hi Doa, yes i bleed in this pregnancy quite alot of times and the same as you so far. My first bleed was early on like you and i went to the doctors and they did a scan and hello there was two sac's. Then they did a repeat scan at about 8wks and we saw two little heartbeats. I bleed prob 5 other times over my pregnancy. I'm now 31wks pregnant. It's so stressful being pregnant in the first place with the questions of are my babies ok are they growing waiting to feel the first movements it goes on and on and then to bleed during the pregnancy it makes it so hard to relax and enjoy the pregnancy. I'm sure your babies are fine as hard as this will be to do you need to try not to stress. Your welcome to PM me if you have any questions at all that you might have. I hope the bleeding stops for you and you are able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy with no more stress added.

Congratulations on the preganacy of your twins. This is all new to me, my twins are now 9 months and I never had any bleeding throughout my pregnancy. After reading your stories I now see that my pregnacy wasnt that bad after all (I complained a lot) Hope all goes well you all 3 of you and hope to hear how your pg is going.

hugs and Kisses

Hi girls,

Once again thankyou very much for all of your replies. I have read in books and on the net that bleeding with twins is common, but I guess unless you hear true stories you don't really believe. At the moment the red bleeding had stopped, just a small amount of brown spotting (so sorry for TMI). I went to work today only for half day and I will try and take it easy. My OB and GP both said that at this stage their is nothing that can be done, I just have to wait it out. The more weeks pass the better it is for the babies. So a lot of praying for me and DH.
Anyway thanks once again. I really want to join the expecting multiples thread but I think I'll wait a couple of more weeks just to be safe. And after that girls I'll be quite a regular.
