Have you thought about what you will give them at Christmas?

My boys are due in about a month. It seems a bit of a waste of money to buy new toys as there are so many toys left over from my 2 y.o son Liam plus they will undoubtedly get presents from other people. DH wants me to wrap up Liam's baby toys but that just seems to stingy! I feel like I should give them something!
Any ideas?
I was thinking about getting them picture books about twins.

Do you think if I start getting them special things about being twins, my 2 y.o will start feeling excluded?

Hi j@cquie
Our boys are expected before christmas, and I have also been thinking about gifts! My DH doesn't think we should bother, but it just seems wrong to not have something wrapped up for them! In the pile of general baby stuff I've been buying, I have a couple of cute rattles and pram toys, which I think I'll wrap up and 'give' them for christmas. Like you said, I'm sure relatives will give them plenty of other things. original.gif
The twin books on amazon are very cute. Can't give any advice about your older son, sorry!

Our first daughter was 2 and half when My two were born about a month before xmas last year. She helped us wrap up some of the things we had bought for them, toys etc, so they were the presents she gave them for xmas. She really enjoyed being able to open then on xmas day as well.

She also thought it was great because all the stuff they got they were too small to play with so she got 3 times the presents.

On another note, I read in a twin book that if you have a toddler who has to constantly be told to wait they can get a bit put out. The book's solution was to tell the babies they have to wait, for example, say to the babies, you will have to wait for a minute while I finish this game with your sister/brother.

I tried to do this once a day and pick situations where the babies were happy and weren't really wanting attention, the look on my daughter's face was priceless, she really liked knowing that she could get preference over them occasionally. I still use it and it really prevents her from becoming too whinging or attention seeking later.

Good luck

I should be an expert at this! My two arrived on Christmas Eve last year! We didn't give them any pressies, but they got a few outfits, teddies, and rattles from the family.

The Books are a great idea and Like Julie said a few things like Rattles etc are fine for them to get...

We got gifts for Hayden and Brooklen at Christmas and they were not even born then! OMG - clothes, frames, nappies were under the tree with "Twin 1 & Twin 2" on them *LOL* So cute......

Those books look good!!

Santas elves have been busy making my 2 those things with the dangly toys that you kick. One of them is getting a plastic one that makes music and the other one is getting a material one that folds up with an attached mat and you can take places with you. They are also getting some rattles for their feet.

My theory was that they will have no idea whether they get pressies or not, however it is a long time until their first birthday (the next big pressie thing) and I am not a big one on buying toys etc. at any time for the hell of it so am using Xmas as an excuse to get the 0-12 month toys and stuff. I am hinting madly that some push around walker toys, preferably some that turn into ride on toys later, would be much apprediated in case they start getting mobile before the next 'present' time.

I felt funny not giving the girls presents as well. they got a new dress each to wear on christmas day and a toy each.... My family spoilt them rotten. I still stay low key with their gifts they get so many presents from family and friends.

Hi J@cquie

I liked the idea of a couple of books specifically relating to twins (as well as some non-twin ones), so I checked out Amazon- however the 'shipping' cost was about twice that of the books!! (and I am pretty sure that is $US too...). Did you find these or anything similar anywhere in Australia??

Thanks

Last Christmas the girls were only 3months old. we were not sure what to get them but I think the best thing to get them is something they can keep for ever. get them a little trinket box or something that will last IYKWIM. the girls got so many toys from the family but not really any keepsakes. REMEMBER..... take lots of photos!!!!!!!

Jacqui,

Our 2 were 3 weeks old at Christmas. They were given HEAPS when they were born. We didn't end up getting them anything. When people asked what we got them we told them that we had given them the gift of life!!! *LOL*

Cheers

My girls were just over a month old at their first Christmas but there were still in hospital, just having been moved from NICU to SCN and with Zoe still on O2 and in an issolette so their first Christmas was hard for lots of reasons... especially figuring out what to get them!

In the end they got clothes from us, even though Zoe couldn't wear them as she still had too many tubes and wires to manage. We also bought them each a chirstmas tree ornament with their name and the year on it and hung them on their cribs in SCN as well as one of those teddies that you stretch out and they play music.... they were also hung on the end of their cribs. Santa (from the hospital) gave them each a bag full full of lovely gifts which included some premmie clothes, some aroma baby products and a tiny knitted santa hat each.

I don't think the babies will care much what they get but I think it's nice to have atleast one nice thing that you can remember their first Christmas by whether that is a special toy or whatever... and the rest could just be stuff you need anyway like clothes etc.
