Hi Ladies,

Not sure where to put this question but I thought here might be a good starting point. We are planning a trip home to Darwin at the end of the year. We are flying and would like to hire a car to use whilst we are there. The only problem is that I need to hire some car seats/capsules as well (babies will be about 2mths old by then). We really dont want to lug our two seats to the other end of the country if possible.

Has anyone ever hired a car interstate with car seats/capsules? I have emailed Avis, Hertz etc but no reply yet.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi,

I don't know costs or have anything to do with this company however we used them on a trip last year to hire a porta cot and they were very helpful. Here is the link: http://www.hireforbaby.com.au/

Woops! Forgot to metion you need to click the BRANCHES link for the agent in Darwin :-)

Have a great trip :-)

Hi Pinkmilly,

Not a twin Mum, but thought I'd let you know I'm hiring a car through Hertz (in Perth though but I'm pretty sure it would be the same everywhere) and they have capsules or seats. Also Hertz give the seat hire for free if you are an autoclub member (eg RACV or RAA or whatever). Though I'm not sure with two wink.gif

Make sure you specify that it is for newborns (ie ask for a capsule or rearward facing), as I hired through Avis last year when DS was 8 months, and they only had forward facing seats available at the depot I picked up from (and DS was still rearward facing by then), I should've been more specific.

Good luck!

We've done about 10 interstate trips w/ the girls over the past 2 1/2yrs. When you book the car either online or by phone they will ask you if you need baby seats etc. Apart from one time, the companies have put the seats into the car before we arrive so its' just a matter of getting the many tonnes of luggage and the family into the car.

I think the worst partof the whole car hire thing w/ bubs is the amount of time you have to wait to do all the paperwork. We found the easiest way to get around it was for one of us to get to the hire desk asap so that when everything comes through you aren't waiting for hrs -no fun w/ kids of any age!!
