Hi.
I want to buy a kindle. Questions though. So if I buy it having set up an amazon account with shipping address for here, when it arrives can I create a new account with a US shipping address to actually connect my kindle to? my bestie lives in Seattle so I can use her addy
I was unconvinced about which ereader to get but now with the lending feature it's swinging me that way so we can share books, where it's enabled.
So can anyone help me regarding the accounts?
Thanks

Do you want to set up the account with the US address to get access to books that aren't available here?

If so, maybe set it up with her address to start with and I think you can have it delivered to another address as a "gift"??????

Buy it and wait until it arrives before adding a USA address. In manage my kindle you just flick between the adds when wanting a book unavailable here. You only need the zip code too ph34r.gif

I tried to use a US address and I received an email saying that they noticed I was accessing my account from Australia (I guess they can tell from your IP address when you download books...would that be right?) They asked could I please supply proof of my US address. My Dad got around this by sending a mock up of a scanned California drivers license but I couldn't be bothered so just went back to my Australian address.

Mum loves hers. Although she hasn't worked out how to get books not available in Australia.

Cryptic when did this happen? Did you have the kindle or was it on route? A friend tried before receiving her Kindle and got in trouble but once she had it wasn't a problem

Loubee - it was after I had received the Kindle. I went and changed my address back to the Australian one after I got the email. Maybe if no one else has had this problem I will try changing back to US again and see if I can get away with it.

When did happen and did you leave it on for awhile? I'd try again but only use the US when purchasing, it's worth it.

you don't have to create a new account, just add a US shipping address as your default address in your current one

Thanks everyone. I think I will go for it!

So I changed my mind and got a Kobo instead. Got it for $135 off borders aust eBay store. So pretty happy with that. Now to wait for it!

TSC - you do know you are not just limited to Borders/A&R for purchasing your books. You can use any international site for purchasing books (so long as they are ePub). There is just the standard 'region restrictions' for some publications where there are Australian Publishing rights (so you may need a work around around that).

I love my Kobo! I buy books from all over the place!

I use Calibre to manage books without DRM and I use Adobe Editions to manage the books with DRM.

Enjoy! Did you get the wifi one?
