Hello everyone!

Just need some opinions. These names will likely not be to everyones liking, but thought I would ask for your opinions anyway original.gif

We are having our 2nd son in 19 weeks. And are considering the following names

Kayani Ullah (pronounced Kay-ani)

Mika Ullah (pronounced Meekah)

Karim Ullah (pronounced Ka-reem)

Zakki Ullah (like Zac with an eeee lol)

Xaviyar Ullah ( prounounced Zav-he-ar)

I am Australian, husband Pakistani, so his family know the names as boys names but mine think Kayani, Mika and Karim sound girlie.

I am thinking Karim and Xaviyar are too common these days. But worried if we stay in Aus if he will be teased as having a girls name or nicknamed Kay...ick, or Mick with Mika which I would hate... Do you think if I called him Kayani and gave the nickname Arnie straight out that would reduce the chances of teasing??

Anyways opinions on what anyone likes would be great.
First son is ZAYAN( i know some people like to mix with sibling names), Ullah is traditional middle name for boys in my husbands family so no changing that one original.gif

I think Mika is the best of those names.

I like Mika too. original.gif

Mika 100%

I think I agree with your family, Kayani and Mika do sound girly, but Karim is not (think Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). Out of your list, I like Xayvier first, then Zakki second, but your other son has a "Z" name too, so I don't know if that bothers you of not?

In relation to calling Kayani Arnie, I went to school with a boy called Sam, but kids being kids and these things having a way of coming out, he did cop a fair bit of teasing when the boys found out his name was actually Seraphim.

Good luck, it's hard choosing names that suit 2 different cultures!

To me Kayani does sound to 'girlie' - My husband is of Malay Indian descent and in those cultures names ending in a 'i' or 'ee' sound are the feminine versions, so that probably colours my opinion.

Could you go with Kayan (that is without the i sound)? or is that butchering things too much.

I think Arnie will bring with it terminator references so is not my prefered option for a nick name.

My pick is Karim. It goes well with Zayan, is easy, is known, is masculine and goes the best with MN Ullah.

Second pick is Mika. I think of it predominantly as a male name and from other cultures as well though I'm aware that it can be a girls name. Doesn't go as well with Zayan or with Ullah.

Thanks guys....

Such a hard decision, I was so certain I was having a girl, so now am all un-prepared wink.gif

Zayan and Karim win my vote. Mika would be second choice.

I really like Mika but like you thought it was a bit girlie for a boy.

With Kayani - what about Katarni/Kayarni/Kalani/Kani/Kailani

Out of these I like Kailani for a boy, atleast you can have Kai or Arni for a nn

I recognised Karim as babyboy.gif - sounds masculine to me.

Mika is my second pick. While it does sound a bit feminine, that famous singer by the same name is a guy.
CuppaTea
mika/meekah is currently a female doll on playschool... I can see a fair bit of teasing with this one....

Karim or Mika

Like some of the PPs, I think of Mika as a predominately male name from other cultures although people do use it for girls now.
Winterdanceparty
Mika to me, sounds like those cute little Meerkats at the zoo.
PurpleNess
Mika is my pick
Second would be Zayan.
