What are your first impressions of Daphne? I don't know if it would ever make the top of my list but it's something I've always liked. Is it too flowery? I don't know why it seems flowery to me. What does it remind you of? There was a character many moons ago on ACP or something called Daphne I think. Is it old lady, or old lady-trendy like the Esmes and Gretas? Also do you know any young children with this name?
Angel1977
Makes me think of the character on Neighbours - Des & Daphne? NMS at all, quite flowery for me.
Gudrun
Don't know anyone of this name but lovely name and lovely flower. It's a definite yes for me.
delli
Reminds me of Scooby-Doo. Sorry!
PixieVee
It reminds me of Scooby-Doo too, but I like it any way.
Bellefin
Ah Neighbours, that's what I was thinking of! So it is a flower? I'm going to google it.
Monroe
I love Daphne.
Kate-ko
definitely a flower (on a shrub) and a very pretty name
*Minnie*
I like it. Its cute but also good for a grown up.

SexyCat
I get the Frasier connotation, but I really like it for that reason original.gif
zippeemum
unsure.gif NMS. I'm getting pastel twin-sets, pearls and sensible shoe vibes
~THE~MAGICIAN~
I only know old people with this name. Not my cup of tea.

cardamom
I really like it. I know it's a flower, but that doesn't immediately spring to mind for me.

Even though the only Daphne I've known was elderly (and just the most kind, beautiful woman), I don't think it has an exclusively 'old-lady' vibe.

I love it. I think it is very chic. It makes me think of Daphne Guinness.

I think Donald Duck's girlfriend was Daphne but I am not sure. There was also character on Neighbours years and years and years ago (80s). That doesn't put me off though.

I thought that but then I remembered it was Daffy.
Alacritous~Andy
Donald Duck's girlfriend was Daisy duck. Daffy duck is a boy (and a Warner Bros character).

Too many ducks to remember!!!
Bellefin

This.

I think Daphne is pretty, but I can't get the image of Scooby-Doo out of my head
Bel Rowley
I don't love it but it's pretty. I've know of a couple of babies being called Daphne in the last year so I think it is becoming in vogue like Esme, Esther, that kind of "old lady" name.
narelleh
I think of Des and Daphne too!

I dislike the nickname Daph - which I think could morph into Daffy duck.

I don't think it's the worst name, but NMS either.
Baby Steps
Daphne was my Nan's name and I am thinking that it must be up for a come back soon.

I love it.
RumbleBee
I love Daphne. I think it sounds sweet without being overly frilly.

But then, I am a fan of this kind of name. I love Hazel too.
LittleSparrow
I think it's a lovely name.

Is it french?
Luckyseven
I cant stand this name sorry, reminds me too of Neighbours and sounds so outdated to me
Gossamer
It's a lovely name that is 'fresher' than many of the other flower/nature/plant names that are currently popular (Rose, Violet, Willow, Jasmine etc)
PippityPip
Daphne is very sweet hheart.gif I met a newborn baby girl last year named Daphne original.gif

Yes, 20 years later or something, I can still hear and see her laugh...!
(she was the one with the awful cackle right?)

I don't know why but it just doesn't do anything for me. Maybe it's because it's so rare these days though; if I met a nice Daphne I could change my mind though.

Miss*Nemo
Daphne was my choice for DD1 but DP refused to allow it because of the scoody doo connection. But I really really love it!
baddmammajamma
One of my favorites ever since my early childhood and mornings with Scooby Doo.

Great name!
Lisy-lis
I like it - I didn't think of Scooby do at all original.gif
Bellefin
Scooby Doo doesn't bother me in the slightest, or Neighbours. Or ducks. I wonder if it's too much Greek with Xanthe? According to one website a lot of people think it's French but it's actually Greek. Thanks for your replies, I'll put it on the list for DP to look at when he is actually interested in discussing names.
JuniperSun
Love it! Fabulous name.
strawberryfire
My gf has this name she gets called Daph or Daphy a lot. so if that does not bother you?
jotana
I think neighbours. I don't really like it.
cabbagepatch
Saw this in recent topics and had to reply...

We just named our baby girl Daphne (she is nearly 4 weeks old biggrin.gif)

Our OB actually delivered another Daphne a week before us (they were twins - Sidney & Daphne)

We love the name (obviously Tounge1.gif ) and were going for something not so common...
vanessa71
First thought is that it's a bit daggy.

Ianthe
Daphne is just lovely.
me+him+her
i LOVE it!
fancie
My first thought of Daphne is always the exquisite perfume of the daphne shrub. If you do name your DD Daphne, OP, you must hunt down this plant for your garden. They can be tricky to grow, but the perfume is heavenly. My darling mum had a daphne growing in her garden - how I miss it.
