Was wondering if anyone can help me with some info???
I have never been able to breast feed any of my children because of psychological issues... It may sound strange to others, but because I was molested as a child, I have never been able to bring myself to breast feed, much to my own disgust...
Anyway...Now that I am having twins, (and they may be born early), I have read how important it can be that they receive my milk, even for a short time.
So I have been considering expressing my milk and giving it to them in a bottle...As I still don't think I can bring myself to actually breast feed directly...
Just after any advice and if it is possible to do this as I don't know much about it myself...
I'm sure you can all understand how difficult it is to admit that I can't directly feed my babies and have lived with this fact for years...So am just looking for the next best thnig that I can do...
Thank you all
Rachael

Hi Rachel, I'm sorry you went through such a traumatic event.
Yes you can express and feed your twins with a bottle. Many mums do this and I certainly did it for my twins at times. (I had cracked nipples a week after the birth and breastfeeding was very painful but expressing milk was fine). For many mums of premature babies for example; this is the routine for quite some time.
Your doctor could give you more info or refer you to a lactation consultant for further advice. I'm not an expert on this by any means but after reading your post I just wanted to give you some positive feedback and wish you all the best.

Hi There
My triplets were born at 31 weeks & are still in a NICU/special care unit. My babies are tube fed, bottle feed & breast fed EBM only, so yes it is possible, just time consuming, as it will take you longer to do it this way than it will to feed directly & you will notice you will be spending a good 1/2 hour or more expressing every 3 hours & then probably 20 minutes to bottle feed each baby plus burping time etc.....
Cheers, Lilymurray

Hello.
No I dont think that it's weird that you can't breastfeed. I am also concerned that I may not be able to as none of the women in my family have had any success with the whole breastfeeding thing. I am however going to try and at the very least try feeding breast milk via a bottle. There are lots of advantages to this technique also - especially if your returning to work soon after the birth.
I would recommend a consultation with the Lactation Consultant at your hospital. From my experience they are lovely and very supportive (no judgement involved at all

)
Best of luck to you!

I'm sorry you had to go through that as a child. I think it's wonderful though that you are still wanting to give the best to your babies. It is possible to purely pump, but will take a lot of dedication from you. My advice to you is to go and see a lactation consultant. You could also try posting this down in the feeding your baby forum, I know there are some girls that have posted in there before that have only ever expressed milk and not breast fed.
Good luck with it.

Racheal - I am also sorry that this has happened to you
I was feeding Brooklen EBM with Lactese drops in it to reduce the amount of Lactose she was getting, and it was fine. I was Breast feeding Hayden still as he was not LI. She took to the bottle easily and was a much happier baby once she got on the LF formula after 5 weeks of feeding her

I know that I gave her the best of the milk and she definatly beifited from that

Good on you for wanting to try this, I can imagine its a big issue for you, but a worth while one, if you can manage. I second a visit to the Lactation Consultant

Hello Racheal,
I also have problems breastfeeding my 10 week old twins and so have opted for expressing and then feeding them from bottles. Previously I used a manual hand pump to express each breast. It takes quite a while. For me, it was 10 minutes each breast, then wash/sterilised, and feed (not to mention burp, nappy change, settle etc). Now I have hired an electric pump from the ABA with two pump option (one for each breast, and it halves the time)... quite expensive however. Also with bottles, my husband can help feed.
All the best,
Tia

Hi Rachael
I am currently having probs breastfeeding, and have been expressing using the Lactina double electric pump. I would recommend using one of these (available to hire from ABA)- very efficient. I am not currently able to get enough milk this way though, so I also use formula.
Tia- I am interested to hear how you get enough to feed your two. How often do you express? and how much are you able to get each time? Also- how much are your twins drinking over 24 hours? Sorry to 'butt in' with my own questions on your thread Rachael! I tried to PM you Tia, but you have it disabled...
Good on you Rachael for wanting to do the best for your bubs
