I'm just wondering - with a twin pregnancy, does your tummy "drop" as engagement commences? I'm just wondering if I should expect my tummy to drop or does the 2nd twin fill that space and so the tummy doesn't "drop"?? I've had the babies sitting in my throat just about for a few months now LOL - can I hope to get *some* relief pre-birth perhaps???

Well, my tummy certainly didn't drop - it just kept getting bigger and bigger - up, down and out ;p !! I think if Twin 1 engages ("drops") then you'll feel more pressure on your cervix and bladder (if that's possible!) but because Twin 2 is still up high, unfortunately the kicks in the ribs are still happening - the best of both worlds (not!).

Sorry, didn't mean to scare the expectant mums out there. But as I was measuring 40 weeks (for a singleton pregnancy) at 28 weeks and didn't deliver until 37 weeks, things were rather crowded at the end. (Is this a bad time to mention I was on crutches for the last month??? ;p)

Maree - how the heck did you manage crutches??? They're pretty difficult at the best of times, I couldn't imagine having to use them to hold up all the weight I'm currently carrying!! But at the same time I can understand how the hips/pelvis might give up the ghost. Mine's problematic but not quite that bad yet and hopefully won't be!

Hhmmmm... it's sounding suspiciously like I should just get used to having babies in my throat. Dammit! Thank goodness for Zantac wink.gif

Hi there,
This might give you some hope. My stomach certainly dropped, which was such a relief as it meant for the last 3-4 weeks I have been the most comfortable since I was about 3 or 4 months pregnant. I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow and at about 33 weeks Twin A dropped down into my pelvis more (although is not fully engaged) and twin B who had always been head down with his bottom and legs in my ribs flipped into a breech position. Suddenly I could breathe and rest more comfortably on my side. This put a bit more pressure on my back but I've been able to manage it.
But now the end is in sight only two more sleeps until I meet my little babies, it's very exciting!!!

Wow Butterscotch, your 30 weeks!!! Not long now, thats so exciting. I cant believe how fast your pregnancy has gone, (to me at least) I cant wait to see what you have and what you name them.

I asked the Obstetrician about this the other day. She said that often with twin pregnancies the tummy doesn't drop because, as I suspected, the 2nd twin fills in the space that the 1st twin creates when s/he engages.

Having said that. My tummy has dropped a bit in the last few days :gasp:. Am getting a bit wary now as I've had some other pre-labour signs as well for the past week.

Tick tick tick tick....

Oh, and my indigestion/reflux has gotten WORSE instead of better the last few days as well!! It's obviously the hormones rather than the babies pushing things up that's causing my indigestion.

On a brighter note. I haven't thrown up for 4 days!!!!!! I've thrown up EVERY SINGLE DAY since I was 5 1/2 wks pregnant but my nausea has definitely decreased hence vomiting has decreased. I will be one very happy camper if I don't vomit again before I give birth (or EVER again for that matter!!)

I dropped, for sure. But at the same time Erin seemed to move up into the space at the top - so while I got lower, I did not lose any height under my breasts. Oh, I remember it so well - dreaming of "dropping" and being able to breathe, and it never happened original.gif

Great news on the no vomiting original.gif I hope you have a lovely lengthy remainder of your pregnancy without any vomiting original.gif

Hi Butterscotch

I am with Maree- no drop experienced here, but I guess it depends on the positions of your babies. Seeing as though my presenting twin was a footling breech- I guess it was never going to happen! Hope you get feel better soon- I am remembering the discomfort all too well (it does go though eventually-one way or the other :-))

Cheers
Lindy
