Hi all original.gif

We are having baby no.3 in September - just found out it will be our 2nd boy wub.gif

DH and I are having a VERY hard time agreeing on a name and the only names we come close to agreeing on are Luke/Lucas/Luca.

On name alone I prefer Luca, however, with our surname I think Lucas fits better.

Surname is Williams.

DH is more keen on Lucas, however, my Mum (who is not a judgemental/nasty person) and another close gf (who is a bit opinionated) both made a funny sort of 'I don't like that' face when I mentioned Lucas. I didn't think it would bother me that someone else wouldn't like my choice in name but for some reason I would really love my Mum in particular to love the name as much as I do.

Mum loves Luca. Luca Williams just sounds a bit hard on the tongue for me though.....thoughts?

Any other suggestions would be great. We like short, masculine, not to common or old fashioned.

Thanks original.gif
Nanns
I like Luca.

I like Luca the best out of the three names, but I agree that Lucas goes best with your surname. Not sure why your mum would make a face to the name Lucas, its a nice name and very similar to Luca (which you say she likes!!)

I would use the name you and your husband agree works best and don't worry about your mother or other people's opinions!

I made the mistake of telling my mum and inlaws our chosen name and none of them liked it which made me feel bad, even though DH and I loved the name. We ended up using it anyway and its all been fine!!

I think Lucas and Luke are both really lovely but I like Luca too. I think Luke probably goes better with your surname than the other two but Lucas is definitely my favourite of the three. What your Mum or friends think of the names shouldn't have anything to do with what one you choose, it's not their baby to name.

Some suggestions:

Quinn

I prefer Lucas, as a name and with your surname.

I think of Luca as a girls name sorry. I know one Luca and one Luka and they are both girls.

I like Luke best with Williams.
lovin it
I think Luca Williams sounds much better than Lucas Williams.
it sounds better without the s on the end of both names

I love the name Lucas wub.gif If not for DH already having a nephew Luke, I probably would have used Lucas.

I think Luke flows the best with your surname though, followed by Lucas. I agree with you that Luca Williams just doesn't quite flow well.

Similar story here - FIL made a nasty comment about DS#1's name before he was born. We still used it and nothing has been said since. It's not your mum's decision and his name won't change how much she falls in love with her grandson original.gif

I love the name Luca, and I think it works better with your surname than Lucas.

I prefer Lucas. There is no reason why you couldn't name him Lucas and nick name him Luca.

I love Luca! My bestie named her youngest boy this original.gif

I agree. Luca is a girls name to me, so maybe you could tell your mum that it's a girls name and she'll suddenly prefer Lucas original.gif
dudewheresmycar
I know a baby Luke Williams and I'm sure there are more around. Luca or Lucas may be a bit less common expecially with your surname.

Wow such varied responses - so much to think about - thanks everyone original.gif

Calcal brings up a good point Luke Williams would be a fairly common name so probably not an option, plus if we call him Lucas or Luca we can always call him Luke anyway original.gif

So it is out of Lucas or Luca - I'm still not set on how Luca Williams sounds for some reason...our DD is Mia which is simiar I guess and I have always liked how Mia Williams sounds but for some reason Luca isn't grabbing me in the same way!

I didn't even realise Luca could be a girls name too - I knew Lucia but didn't know Luca/Luka - another thing to think about...

Wish I had said nothing until he was born and I wouldn't have had this problem! wink.gif

20 weeks to think about it should help original.gif

I have a son named Luca, and obviously LOVE the name!

PLEASE don't name your baby Luca if she's a girl!! Luca is an Italian boy's name, and it alway makes me cringe when I hear it on a girl. If you visited Italy with a daughter named Luca, you would probably get a similar reaction to the reaction you'd get in Australia if you named your daughter Henry or Patrick.

I actually think Luca Williams sounds better than Lucas Williams, because of the 's' on the end of both Lucas and Williams, but Lucas probably sounds a bit better with Mia, as both Luca and Mia end in an 'a'.

Sorry - probably not much help!

I prefer Lucas, but i have a Lucas.

Definately LUCA

Another vote for Luca - love the name, my first boy is Luka.

what's wrong with a girl named Patrick? I have a third cousin named Patrick and she's about 12. I actually was shocked when I first heard it but i'm used to it now.

I love Luke. I like Lucas too but not with your surname.

I love Luca and Lucas too. Luke is fine, but not in the same league IMO.

I also have a similar surname issue (mine is Grounds). I'd always thought Lucas does sound better with it (and yours) but really there's not much in it: either would be a great name I think, so don't worry too much original.gif

Agree with zara-b; though *technically* on some baby name sites Luca might be used for a girl, it must be a teeny tiny proportion. It's all male to me.

Lucia is pretty though original.gif
mummagoobs
I'm very bias - I love Luka!

My DS's name and I loved the use of K - felt more masculine for me as my gf has a DD called Lucia. Just IMO.

Definitely like Luca/Luka Williams over Lucas. original.gif

*edited to add...my MIL tried to get us to spell DS Lucca as she had been there in Italy...um, yeh sure! DD is Georgia btw so can understand the 'a' for both, kind of like it personally, feels sweet. And another thing about name changes, or what we end up calling them despite the name we choose....DS gets called Buddy...go figure original.gif original.gif

Luca would be my pick, it's most definitely a boys name only (to me).

No i'm not joking. Believe me, it even shocked me when I first heard it. She is a very distant cousin and lives in America. She was named after her father.

LOOVEEE Luca and Lucas, go with what you prefer - my mother pulls those "urgh" faces all the time regarding every aspect of my life because it's not her style. You are going to be this child's mum - your and DH's decision!

Obviously i love the name, i have a Lucas Daniel original.gif
