DH has decided these are his top 2 picks if bub is a boy.

I prefer Asher myself as Mason seems to be getting SO popular around here (there were 2 born just while I was in hospital having DD last year.) But I'm not 100% certain.

Only thing holding me back is I think Mason 'sounds better' with DD's name (Lila Imogen), and not sure if other people will think Asher is a girl blush.gif but I do still love it.

So just thought I'd get some other opinions if possible? Which do you prefer, Asher or Mason? Middle name will most likely be Benjamin.
Dabri
Mason is the far better name.
fifi-trixibelle
I prefer Mason but Asher Benjamin definitely sounds far better than Mason Benjamin.
cinnabubble
Asher times a million.
Beth E
I like both, but much prefer Asher. I even thought it for our boy, but I didn't want double vowel name.

I know of a male called Asher.. original.gif
Nanns
Asher.
Only_Ethan
I like Asher.... or if you're worried about the girl name reference, do you like Ashton?
~THE~MAGICIAN~
Neither.

Mason is a surname, and Asher is unisex and I like feminine or masculine names.

Eva5
I love Asher. Mason, not so much.
PippityPip
Ooooh I love Asher! wub.gif wub.gif

Mason is a surname.

LOL. Clearly I disagree!

Mason is the name we got when we combined my husband's first name with mine.

I like both names, but I think it's clear where my preference lies grin.gif
CleverChook
I know that as a name nerd, I'm meant to like Asher more, bu I don't.

Mason is a surname, I know, but of all the occupational surnames this one is the one I think really works. It's one of my guilty pleasures.
delli
I prefer Asher. Asha is a girls name, Asher is a boys name. To me, they are pronounced over to slightly differently with the 'ah' or 'er' at the end.

Neither.

Asher is Hebrew and means something like "happy man" -- not unisex at all. That's like saying Peter is unisex on the grounds that there is a homophonic name.
Booroodinn
Love Asher, not a fan of Mason
cardamom
Much prefer Asher, not a fan of Mason at all.

Asher definitely sounds better with Benjamin, too (which I really like!).
*CalamityJane*
My DH is Mason, so I am a bit biased. I always thought it was such a strong name. We LOL at how popular it's become since his name came from his parents arguing between Jason and Mark when he was born and it was practically unheard of when he was growing up.

I know Asher is a boy's name and I have met a couple, but in my head it doesn't sound really masculine. Maybe that's just because of the Ashers I have met?
Shizella
Asher wub.gif
Happy Dance
Mason tthumbs.gif
sara.s

Out of those two, Mason. Asher is a a bit feminine to my ear, I don't know why, and sounds a bit made up.
riwymk
I really really like both. I think either would go great..... I am no help.
rbat
Asher is 100% male to me, same goes for Luca but that is another thread laughing2.gif! I definitely prefer it to Mason.
Jen1
I prefer Mason as I refer Asha as a girls name.
me3922
Mason
Gudrun
Asher is a goodie. Asher Benjamin for me.

i totally disagree - asher and luca are both girls names in my opinion! this may be because i have only ever heard of girl ''asha's'' though
*magenta*
Asher Benjamin is lovely.

Mason isn't at all lovely.
Freddie'sMum
Asher by a country mile.

(esp as I will never get a chance to use it - we have 2 DDs here and DH is not going back for a third !!)

ronnyandcharlize
Mason biggrin.gif

I'm biased because my DS is Asher. Asher (spelt like this) is definitely a boys name, its Hebrew for happy (which I think is very cute) - a PP mentioned this. There are two Ashers in the Old Testament, so I think it is traditionally a Jewish name. I don't worry about people thinking its not masculine, because I know its a boy name biggrin.gif
pinkballerina
I love Asher but don't like Mason at all.

Asher
To me Mason is a bit dark

la di dah
I like Asher and I've known Ashers (and it's a boys' name to me!) but I'm Jewish.

Mason isn't ugly but its common and "Mace" isn't the most attractive NN.
Elemenopee
Asher by a country mile, Mason is really nms.
~Lila~
Thanks SO much for your help ladies. Was really nice to see that alot of you preferred Asher happy.gif I personally like it alot more than Mason, but was just worried it might not be seen as a boys name when there are so many girls named 'Asha' out there. I think I just need to not worry so much about what other people might say laughing2.gif
And yes, I also think Asher Benjamin sounds much better wub.gif

Aww gorgeous! I also love the meaning, and I guess the fact that DH and I BOTH love it (which is a miracle in itself lol) is a good sign original.gif And that's right, once it's your own son's name it's a bit hard to see it as anything but masculine lol. Thanks for your help happy.gif

Thanks again ladies, you've been so helpful. It looks like we might've narrowed down at least one girl and boy name now before bub is here, who would've thought?! grin.gif
fifi-trixibelle
What's the girls combo you have picked?
~Lila~
Hi Fifi, I'm still hoping for Ivy Juliet, I haven't given up yet! laughing2.gif But if not it will most likely be Ivy Raphaela, which I'd still be more than happy with wub.gif

Not too long now till we find out!

wub.gif either way N! Can't wait to hear if you have an Ivy or an Asher original.gif x
fifi-trixibelle
I'm looking forward to hearing what they end up being in the end too. I like Ivy Raphaela just that bit more because you're not using the Juliette speling if you use Juliette.
Ladeeda
Hey lovely!! waves.gif

I really like both names so don't think you can go wrong!
But I agree that Asher Benjamin is a better combo than Mason Benjamin!

Fingers crossed if it's a girl you get to use Ivy Juliet!!! Hehe

Please, do not add another Mason to the planet!
Asher is less common, go for that one.
~Lila~
Thanks Fifi, I quite like Juliette aswell, but DH isn't keen rolleyes.gif Not that he loves Juliet either. So very fussy lol. I do love Raphaela too though so will be very happy to use that happy.gif
