Hi ladies

Just one question for you - when did you find out you were having twins? In other words, what is the earliest they can tell?

Thanks

Julia

I found out at 6 weeks but was told that at such an early stage there was only a 50 percent chance of them both surviving- known as 'vanishing twin syndrome' where one gets reabsorbed for no apparant reason. I had an US every 2 weeks to keep checking- they both made it!

I found out at 8 weeks, my first appointment with my Obstetrician and she did an u/s.

My hcg levels at 4 weeks were very high so I was a bit suss about being pregant with twins before I saw my Ob for the first time.

Am not sure how early is the earliest they can discover twins tho.

I found out at 7 weeks at scan. Nurse said "Oh s**t" and we looked shocked she said, "its ok, there are just two heartbeats". When doc confirmed he said it was best not to tell everyone yet as it is very common to loose one before you get to 20 weeks. We raced out and rang everyone from the carpark. Twins born by c-sec @34.5 weeks T1 7lb1oz, T2 6lb13oz. Now 3 1/2.

Thanks for all your responses. I'll hang on a bit longer, I guess.

I am so obsessed!

I found out at my 8 week scan but suspected as much as I was already showing.

I found out at 14 weeks. I had miscarried, or so they thought, and went in to have a scan to find out how far along I had been. Then I was told I had twins and both were healthy.

I found out at my NT scan @ 13 weeks - (pretty much saw the image below in my sig and freaked out) this was after 2 scans, first saying 'not sure it was a viable pregnancy' and the next saying 'one sac'...

bumpyroad
I remember it quite clearly 5wks 3dys. they tested at 5wks nothing showed, few dys later it was confirmed and there were 2 heartbeats.
Lunar26
I found out when I was 5 weeks pregnant, 2 sacs showed up on the ultrasound (I needed the ultrasound so early as I did not know how far along I was). I was told to come back in approximately 2 weeks or so to see if both developed and if 2 heartbeats could be seen.

And sure enough there were 2 little hearts beating away at the next ultrasound!

I found out at 10 weeks with my first set - bt a funny feeling anyway.... and at 7 weeks with my 2nd set but was also warned about the vanishing twins thing and then with my 3rd set at around 7 weeks i found out it was twins again but a week later one had "vanished"...
All natural conception.

These stories are amazing, and giving me chills.

I do kind of think I might be having twins, mainly because I am pathetically obsessed and desperate! Also, I have had pg symptoms from about 2 minutes past ovulation.

We'll see - and I'll be straight on here if I am!
