Hellooo :-)

Just wanted to hear how other twin mummies went with Braxton Hicks contractions. I'm 25 weeks now, and have really started noticing them over the last few days. Only once or twice a day, and lasting less than a minute.

I'd read about it and mentioned asked my obs about it last visit- he said they're v. common and not to worry unless they were painful or frequent, but I was hoping to hear from some ladies who've been there.

When did they start? How often did/do you get them? Did you need to be checked because of them? And (most importantly!!) when did you deliver (or how far have you got?)

Just getting a little stressed I guess- I'm having a caesar, for pete's sake- I don't even NEED BH!!! wink.gif

Hon, don't worry, I'm getting 10+ a day and they're increasing as the weeks go on - it's because of the hormones I'm told and subsequent pregnancies get more and earlier in the pregnancy.

I started getting BH in my first pregnancy (with a singleton) a bit later on, but let's face it, with two everything is bigger and better Tounge1.gif

Hello, don't worry! If BH become frequent (4 or more per hour and if it lasts more than an hour) then you should ask you Doctor.
My BH scared me a bit all my pregnancy, but I got used to them at the end. I had BH somewhere from 15 weeks, normally about 4 an hour, sometimes even more often. Had a bit of a scare when they became regular - every 10 minutes for few hours, spent a night in a hospital, they did all usual checks - everything was fine. Had a very good natural delivery at 36 week exactly (mind you - I started with breaking waters and in the hospital tried to ensure midwifes that I was not in labour yet, that that were only my usual BHs ;p).

HI there

I think mine started around 22 weeks. At first I didn't realize what they were. I know by 25 weeks they were a lot stronger & more frequent. I had my girls at 30 weeks, but I don't think it had anything to do with the BH. I know my mum use to get them from about 15 weeks & she carried all her bubs to term.

As the others have said try not to worry & if you are worried get checked by your OB.

Hi ChristieEm
I've been getting them since wk16 (am 24wks now), and at wk18 I had very painful contractions that were 5min apart (lasted for 4days)! Since then I get them more sporadically, they seem to coincide with tummy growth spurts. My OB said they're really common with multiples, because your uterus has to expand so much more than with a singleton, which I guess makes sense.
Also, I've found certain things really set them off - especially having a full bladder and being thirsty, so make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids. Another trigger I've found is unfortunately pelvic floor exercises! Whenever I do them I immediately start geting BH's... so I was told to stop doing them - bugger. sad.gif
Anyway, sorry can't stop rambling this morning... like the others said, if you're getting more than say 6 an hour, or they're painful, give your doc a call.

Christie - I too started to get them from about 25 weeks on...mostly when we were in Coles shopping! It was a funny feeling and alot of explaining to my Ob to convince me that was what they were original.gif LOL, from then on I averaged them more frequently as the weeks progressed - I remember too vividly the one I got walking to the prep room for the ceaser.....
Stay healthy and well lovie!!! Keep up the good work.
