~Jodie~
Hi there

Just wondering if any of you could tell me how early you knew that you were pregnant with twins and if you guessed before it was confirmed by ultrasound. This is PG no 5 and Jodie is really tired, sleeps all day, very dizzy, has put on heaps of weight already and looks around the same as she did at 6 months when she was last preggers. If you knew before the U/S what made you suspect? Both our dads are twins - (My father fratenral, hers identical). What else can be a give away to more than one in there? We really want something concrete to go to the doctor with so if we know what to look out for it will be great.

Hope we can find some answers here

I think the only way to truly tell is to have an ultrasound. It is possible to tell from ultrasound very early, so it could be confirmed now. Your Doctor can also tell you if the uterus is larger than it should be and sometimes there can be a higher level of HCG (think thats the name) which is the pregnancy hormone, in the system. If you suspect you are having twins I would tell my GP to refer me to have an ultrasound. Sometimes they won't give you an ultrasound early, so in this case I recommend saying that you are unsure of your exact dates, therefore need an ultrasound to confirm dates!!!!

I myself suspected I was having twins through intuition (just sensed it) and also had a dream. Told my partner this and he just thought I was crazy, untill I had the ultrasound at 12 weeks and it confirmed it...Yep twins...

Okay, hope all this helps a bit..
And good luck with everything...

It's very difficult to know really even with an ultrasound one can be hiding behind the other. I've heard of this happening quite often. I found out at 6wks they found two sac's i was very sick and very tired my belly got bigger alot quicker but that can happen with one too. I'm now looking fullterm and i'm just over 24wks. I have already had 5 children why my uterus would get so big so quick it's done it so many times that it's knows what it's doing. You being a fraternal twin could pass it on to your daughters but you can't make your wife drop two eggs, but with saying that nothing stops your wife having identical twins. I hope this helps you out

I found out I was pregnat with twins at 8 weeks, but only through u/s. I became VERY sick from 5 weeks with m/s (which I still have) and my hcg levels at exactly 4 weeks were 890 which is double the normal maximum level for that gestation. I had my first Ob appt at 8 weeks and queried with her my severe m/s and high hcg levels and she didn't suspect twins at all. It was only that I asked her to do an u/s that two little blobs were discovered. Strangely enough tho, I had managed to put on 2kgs by the time I was 8 weeks even tho I was vomiting constantly - I mean alllllll day. Twins run in my family so I knew it was a possibility. Even so, it was still a complete shock when the Ob declared "Oh, I can see two babies!"!!

If this is the 5th baby for Jodie - apparently you can show much much quicker with subsequent pregnancies than with one. For me, I didn't look bigger than others at the same gestation who were having one baby till I was about 18 weeks - that's when I just suddenly exploded!

As far as the inheritance of twins - it is only the twin on Jodie's side that contribute to twins being inherited, and only if her father was a fraternal (non-identical) twin, and Jodie is pregnant with fraternal twins. Identical twins are not heridtary.

Good luck original.gif You'll be needing it if this is baby #5 AND 6 :gasp:!!

Hi there

I was 6weeks & 4 days when we found out we were having ID twins.

I must say though, it's quiet rare these days for twins to be missed on a 12 or 18 weeks scan (the technology is so much more advanced these days). As I said it was obvious that I was having 2 at 6 weeks & 4 days (via an internal scan).

I didn't show until I was about 17 weeks & I was also VERY sick.

Hope that helps

Belinda

Yeah ultrasound is really the only way you can confirm this - we found out at 6 wks because I had severe cramping and Dr thought it may have been an eptopic pregnancy(ended up just being due to stretching wink.gif)

Hi there we found out it was twins at 6wks with an u/s. But the Dr's had a fairly good idea that it was twins at 14dpo, due to my high HCG levels.
