My worries are the puffy sleeves and the colour and the way that blends with my hair colour.
I'm quite shy and also rather paranoid... I'm not sure if it looks okay or not. I purchased it today, after being assured it looked "retro," on me and I could pull it off... but of course a salesperson would tell me these things.
My partner isn't much help, so I figured I'd ask a bunch of women who aren't going to just say nice things to keep me happy like friends/my mother might.

I actually really like it and think it looks quite flattering! And definitely a bit retro!!
But the important thing is YOU likeit and feel comfortable

Your hair style and the type of dress match*, I think.

Lookin' good!

I think it looks great on you.
A pair of high black peep toe wedges would look fantastic with it.

You look fantastic. It has a lovely shape and looks a great fit too. Puffy sleeves are apparently very hot right now

I think it compliments your hair shade rather than blends.

Soooooo glad I looked at the pic... your description left me with visions of an 80s formal frock with puff sleeves in a loverly "ashes of roses" hue that would blend completely with your mousy drab hair*.
I was ready to share the truth with you gently...and then I looked at the pic.
You're a hottie!!!!
* Disclaimer - I personally have mousy drab hair, no insult intended to other's of my hair colour!!!

I think if you added a black patent leather belt would cinch in and give you a better shape to the waist, which would vamp it up a little more retro and suit your hair more too.

Hair up, ruby earrings, killer red lipstick, sky high black pumps and betcha DP keeps you really close when you go out in that dress...

I also think you look fantastic.
Maybe pull your hair up if you're worried about it blending in? A sharp bun, or high ponytail could look good.

Thanks everyone.
I guess that's really what I needed - a bit of an ego boost - enough to wear it out and not worry that everyone is thinking I look stupid.
I have red lippy, but I think it looks gross on me. I need a better shade I think. Maybe for future reference though. Will be wearing black peep-toes with it too. It's all I've got laying around. lol. Well, I have black heels, but then I'll look too dressy for where we're going I think.
The dress is from City Chic, so you kind of need to be a size 14/16 or bigger to get one. lol. Mine's a small, which is approx a 16 I think.

I used to hate red lipstick too OP until I discovered a better way of applying it. Just blot the lipstick onto your lips enough to get enough colour and then use a similar coloured gloss over the top

I like the dress but I would say hair up in a French roll style.

OP, I saw this dress in city chic yesterday when I was in there. It looks very ordinary on the rack, so I rejected it - looks awesome on you though.
Am going back in on Monday, now, to actually try it on!

I think you look incredible!! The dress is stunning, and your hair is gorgeous! And I hope this doesnt come across as weird, but the neckline of the dress does great things for your boobs!!
