Just wondering what kind of car you all have, especially those of you with 3 or more children.

We are looking at cars now and have a few in mind however, the question has been raised on anchoring for 2 capsules and one child seat. As Eloise won't be old/big enough for a booster seat when the twins are born we still need the 3rd anchor point.

Also does anyone know if the Tarago's have mid mounted anchoring points?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Maycee
Hi, we have a Tarago which we love. I'm not sure re the anchor points but I'll check and get back to you. Congratulations on your twin pregnancy,
Maycee

I am just stalking these threads... sorry LOL!

I nannied for twins and their two older siblings. They have a Kia Carnival. There are bolts for the two 'centre' row seats and they had a bar put across the rear that had three anchor points attached to it - giving them five spots therefore a few combinations (although only needed them for the twins and toddler).

The bar across the back does slightly interfere with boot space but they fitted their twin pram in perfectly.

It is appears to be a great car and they have been really happy with it. It is nice to drive and it is easy to get into the back seat as there is a 'walkway' between the front row and centre row seats! The centre seats fold easily for access to the back row.

Definately worth a look if you are buying a 'mummy van'!

HTH's anyway!

Cheers!

We have a 7 seater Mazda MPV and it has 5 anchor points. We are currently using 4 car seats, and haven't had any dramas. It's been excellent for us. It fits our triplet pram, and the single stroller in back as well. original.gif

We have a chrysler voyager to ferry our five and their mates. We had to have a bar fitted to have the baby seat installed (around $400).
I wouldn't recommend a voyager though - we bought it used and it has made noises ever since we got it. We just found out that the transmission on this model doesn't last as long as you would expect for such a pricey car - we are heading for a $7-8,000 repair bill.
Prior to this we had a 98 tarrago - an absolute dream of a car and so roomy even when full.

I have the Suzuki XL 7 and love it....I researched this topic heaps when looking for a family car. I settled for the suzuki as I found it not to be as big as other vans or 4WD's when it came to driving and parking. Yet it fits 7 people comfortably in it. It has 5 anchor bolts and the middle seat of the middle row has a full seat belt, instead of the lap belts that alot of the others have. Not alot of boot space, which I found to be the norm when looking at the people movers. I am very happy with my choice and love my car....

Hi again MrsK,
I checked my Tarago re anchor points:
the centre seat has 3 anchor points mounted behind the back rest of the centre seat (we have our youngest in a car seat in the middle of this row) and the rear seat has 2 anchor points in each back corner of the rear seat. The centre seat can be slid back and forth without having to adjust the fitted car seat.
Feel free to pm me any further questions about the Tarago.

Hi we have a Mitsubishi Pajero which is a 7 seater. It is great -huge and fits our monster twin pram in with ease. I love to drive it and it is so easy to park. Ours is a 2001 model and we got it only 3 months ago and i love it! It was a great change from my tiny Mazda 121 and DP's 2 door coupe - which was struggle to get 2 baby capsules in and out of!

Hi there,

We have a Land Rover Discovery. We got it just before I had the girls and it has been great. Don't know how we will go if we are blessed with another little baby. There is a big boot space for the double pram and we are avid campers, so it will be getting plenty of 4WD work.

Hi,

We have a Honda Odyssey which is a 7 seater. Our stipulation on buying the vehicle was that Honda find a way to put 2 more anchor points in for us as I felt that the way the anchorage was set up wasn't suitable for us.

All anchors are located in the boot compartment of the Odyssey, 3 on the roof for the middle row and 2 on the floor for the back row.

I felt that the middle row anchors posed a possible strangulation risk to children in the back row in case of an accident. Honda took the complaint seriously and took our vehicle to a service centre and had 2 more points placed in the front of the back row of seats.

I was more than happy with this arrangement, the anchors cannot be seen as they are hidden under a material flap on the back seat.

Hard choice when it seems the motor industry doesn't take larger families seriously.

Good luck

We have a Honda CRV and there are three anchor points on the roof of the boot - great as does not interfer with loading up the boot. This is a small 4WD but handles and feels like a car. I love it - you can also get a sports model with all the luxury features (like cd stacker, leather interior, heated seats, sunroof etc) so you don't feel like you are missing out!!

Hi

We have a 1995 Toyota Spacia which is the baby Tarago
we currently have 6 anchor bolts fitted in our van!!!
I think most places like our RACT equiv will fit bolts to your vehicle if needed.....
Our van would have originally come out with 2 or 3 anchorage points.

HTH

[color=Teal]We have a Chrysler Voyager (not sure of the anchor points, but I'm sure there's a few!) and it's been absolutely fabulous!! I'm just about to update to a new model (with the fabulous "stow & go" seats that fold down into the floor when you're not using them).

Also, the Voyager has a huge area in the back for cargo. I have removed the back 2 seats and I can wheel our Mountain Buggy Double Urban straight into the back of the car without even having to collapse it!! ;p

But, having said that, I also drove a Tarago recently when we flew to Melbourne and it was great. The only thing that stopped us from buying one is that they don't have a "stow & go" system.

I've been looking for a new car myself and yes the anchoring issue. The tarago has got quite a few if i remember correct but are if different spots depending on which model you choose. At the moment we have a toyota corolla. The other issue you will need to remember is will it fit a twin pram. Our car now doesn't. Another good car that we looked at was the Honda Odyssey. But once again i can't remember where there anchors are. We are going to go car shopping again during the week i will make a mental note on where they are and let you know.

I know this is a late addition but we also have a mitsubishi pajero, which once you have three car seat in the back, and one of them is a booster seat, it starts to get squeezy. We had to buy an expensive "compact booster" and still havbe trouble getting our hand down the side to do up the belt. Also in our the third bolt is at the very back of boot (or front, ie right where the door opens) so we have one strap that completely dissects our luggage area. Probably still okay if all still in 0-4's but not great once you use booster's wher ethe seatbelt from the car is used. The newer pajeros though have a great space saver, the 6th and 7th seats fold down flat into a hole in the floor when not needed. We had to take ours out as they fold up to the side and you cant fit much more than the twin pram then, let alone two travel cots, suitcases, toys boxes of nappies, etc etc etc.
