Well, as of a couple of weeks ago we now officailly have toilet trained twins!

We started a little before they turned 3yos using 'pullups' the first couple of days were great, but then they discovered that they could wee in them and still carry on as normal so it ended up being just an expensive version of a nappy.

We then bought a load of undies and started putting them UNDER the pullups-every time they did a wee they knew they were wet and honestly it only took a couple of accidents and they had totally gotten the idea that when they need to go to the toilet they go to the toilet!

We still use the pullups over the undies because it saves a lot of washing if they do happen to have an accident or if we're going in the car somewhere.

Our key to sucess? Waiting until they were well and truely ready and also our 'sticker' chart-its a great motivationer to get a stamp on their chart everytime they go to the loo....

Hi Caz, well done!!
It's such a huge thing when they finally start to get the hang of it. I think the way you did it was great. I totally agree with you re the waiting until they're ready.
Another big milestone!

No_idea!
[color=Blue]Caz, I love the idea of the undies under the pullups!! I've never heard of that before, but I'll be making a mental note and using it when the time comes for us!! wink.gif

Congratulations!! - and it's good to hear some confirmation of my thoughts about waiting until they're ready - some of my mother's group are starting TT (the kids are all just turning 2) but to be honest, it seems like none of them are really ready - no real progress in weeks. I think my life is complicated enough without adding TT too early to it!!

Thanks ladies!

Nee-dont be jealous! LOL! Its bad enough having 2 that want to go to the toilet at the same time-let a lone 3 all wanting to have a poo at the same time-believe me it seems to be contagious! We only have a one toilet house and didnt use a potty but there were times when I would seriously reconsider it.

Vanessa-I think someone on another board said they'd put undies under nappies before seriously trying TTing-I just adapted it a bit.

Maree-I honestly couldnt imagine starting any earlier than when we did-I think people who try tting with just turned 2yos must be much much more organisied than I ever was! Life is busy enough without making it more stressful than it has to be.

PS another tip especially for those with big (large) kids-Joel and Cam have always been off the scale with their height and weight and we have been in the largest size nappies since they turned 2yos-for months we were having wet beds in the morning because their nappies were saturated. We'd tried nappy inserts/maternity pads plus 'training' pants over their nappies at night but always soaking wet in the am.

A couple of months ago I bought a pack of 'dry nites'-basically pullups for older kids. Now I put a nappy on (with insert) then a drynite and then training pants and they wake up dry-which ultimately means they dont wake up early because they were wet! So now were back to 7am wakeups instead of 5.30am bed and pj changes.
