I've started coming down with Puppps which is a horrible pregnancy related skin rash. It becomes extrememly itchy and the only cure is giving birth. I had it during my last pregnancy with my son Liam who is now 2. I was quite relieved this time around because I had read that it often just occurs in 1st pregnancies with boys so I was sure I wouldn't get it again. Anyway I have :-( I'm 26 weeks pregnant with fraternal twin boys. I've now read that it is also most common in twin pregnancies although it is still fairly rare. Just wondering if anyone else has had it or has it now. It would be nice to sympathise with each other! Although mine hasn't become too bad yet as it is only the early stages, I'm really scared of what is to come. Last time the only thing that helped was ice packs. I had them all over my body at night, at work...24 hrs a day. I was getting 2 hrs sleep on average a night. Anyway, enough rambling! I'm just interested to know if there are any other puppps infected women out there!!

Hi j@cquie
Congratulations on your twin pregnancy!
How awful that you're going through the pain/torment of PUPPS a second time. I haven't had it myself (touch wood) but I know quite a few women on EB have... here's a link to various discussions relating to it on EB:

PUPPS Discussions

Good luck - Hope you find some relief soon!

I had Pupps, omg what a horror. I'm sorry to hear you are sufferring this a second time. My Ob told me to take Clartyne (hayfever tablets) to help with the itch. The next time I saw her I almost kissed her. I had gone through the not being able to sleep because of the itch and foend myself in the shower in the middle of the night and then just crying because I couldn't sleep and was so uncomfortable and so bloody itchy. The Clarytne really helped and I was finally able to sleep again. If you are not comfortable taking anything talk to your Ob or GP and check if they think it's ok.

Take care,
Mel

Hi-I developed puppps at about 32 weeks-by 34 weeks I was beside myself! I was initially prescribed cortisone cream which didnt touch it. I then went to a dermalogist (after having first been cleared for cholestasis which can produce a similar itch-the only difference with the itch being you also itch on the palms and soles of the feet which you dont with puppps).

His discription of my puppps was 'the most florid case Ive ever seen!' and he prescribed prenisolone tabs and phenergan (phenergan more so to help me get a couple of hours sleep because his feelings were that antihistamines dont normally help with this 'itch'-I'd tried claratyne and others with no relief). The prednislone tabs started working after about 4-5 days -I was on them for 2 weeks-and although it didnt go away it was enough to allow me a few solid hours sleep and eased the itch markedly.

I had Joel and Cam at 38.5 weeks and after a couple of days it had totally gone.

Like you the only real relief I got was from putting wet cloths in the freezer and drapping them over myself. I also had a moituriser that was vit. E based-very runny and low scented-that I found helped too.

Is 26 weeks early for puppps to develop? My sympathies to you because as you know it really is the pits.

Good luck-

Hi,

I had puppps too and whenever I see a post about it I like to put my 2 cents in coz I believe that only someone who has been through it can truly sympathise.

I second the phenergan. It was my saving grace, three times a day. If I forgot even one pill I would know about it.

Do try and get something like this for it, there is no need to put up with the itchiness.

Thanks for the links Doh. I think they'll be useful.

Speary, I tried Claratyne when I had Puppps last time but it didn't help. I've still got some though so I might give it another go tonight.

cmf and apples!: I have an OB appt on Wednesday so I'm definitely going to discuss Phenergan. I've read a few other posts on EB and it seems to work. Thanks for the tip.

It's still not unbearable but it has really only been present this week and it verey time I look at it it has spread more. Horrible thing :-(
