Denmark's Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederick have baptised and named their baby twins.

As reported in the Sydney Morning Herald, Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander and Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda, born on January 8, are the third and fourth children for Mary and Frederik. They are siblings for Prince Christian, five, and Princess Isabella, who turns four next week.

The children were each given a Greenlandic name, Minik and Ivalo, in honour of Denmark’s autonomous territory, Danish media report.

The name Sophia has links to the twins’ maternal great grandmother, Queen Consort of Denmark - Ingrid Victoria Sofia Louise Margareta - who died in 2000.

In keeping with Danish royal tradition, the names of the new prince and princess have been kept secret since their birth and news from Holmen’s Church on Thursday quickly spread around the globe.

Lovely names, congrats to them! original.gif

Hehehe I know a set if twins names isabelle and Josephine! Cute names!
Gossamer
Lovely names. I adore Josephine wub.gif and Vincent is great (the only downside being the potential for Vince as a NN).
LottieCait
I love their names. I knew Princess Mary wouldn't disappoint original.gif
mischiefmaker
Josephine is lovely, but Vincent is hideous.
mummytomany
Horrible names.
cryptic
I love both the names. Here is a pic. As usually they all look gorgeous. I think Frederick looks quite good with a bit of a beard.

idignantlyright
I think they are lovely names.

What amazes me is how some people think the twins names are hideous, yet some of the names they do like are nowhere near as nice.
ms bonny
Aargh.. Princess Mary 'stole' my favourite name for a girl! biggrin.gif

Lovely picture. She looks impossibly good for a mum of 4 under 5.
frosted
Gosh they are a stunning family. Great names as well.
nutsabouthazel
Woohoo huh.gif really? is this worthy of an exclamation mark.
Robbie
You are in Baby Names nutsabouthazel - we tend to get excited about baby names in here wink.gif

I love Josephine. I don't love Vincent, but it's very fitting alongside the rest of the children's names original.gif

Little Isabella is a cutie pie!

Horrible names.

Maybe Wills and Kate will have a little Princess Memphis or Prince Bowie for you. wink.gif

I think both names are good, I like that they used the Greenlandic middle names.

It amazes you that people have different tastes in names? huh.gif

LOVE THEM!! Even Vincent! but then again I love the song by Don McLean.

Josephine is my imaginary baby girls name if we ever had an oopsie (which we wont but a girl can dream lol)
~Edie~
It could have been so so much better.

Lovely photos of the christening here - http://foto.jp.dk/fotosite_albumview.php?serie=1682

I'm not so enamored with Vincent, but I do love Josephine! original.gif

I now have visions of Vinnie from Young Talent Time...

I kinda feel the same. Not a big fan of Vincent.
missjoads1234
I wish this would stop coming up in recent threads. Every time i see it i keep thinking of danish pastries. biggrin.gif

I feel a bit sad for Vincent.
Imagine being a Vincent, amongst Christian, Isabella and Josefine.
I'd feel a bit ripped off!

I love the photos Peanut linked too - they are so "normal"! I like the one where it looks like Isabella might be going to stick her fingers in the Christening water and Mary is "redirecting" her. And the one where Prince Joaquim (?) is giving his boys "the look" that Dads across the world give their kids when they're sitting in a church service which is boring the kids to tears!
Very natural and relaxed, for such a big occasion. Love it!
briandrea
I wonder why they went with Vincent? Anyone have any idea?

I don't agree at all, I much prefer Vincent to Christian.
PixieVee
I adooooooore Josephine! One of my absolute faves! Vincent I could take or leave... I agree with BB, it's better than Christian though. The girls got the better names!
misslizzie
They are lovely names - congrats to mary and frederick.
Kay1
They are such a fairtytale. Its almost too good to believe!

I like Josephine but Vincent doesn't do much for me. I like the little nod to Australia with Mathilda (although I realise its probably a family name).
Peanut
I like the photo where Isabella is lifting up her dress, as all little girls do despite the occasion!!!

Also the one where Christian is checking up on his little sibling in Dad's arms!
leisamd
Congrats to them, love the names - especially Vincent! Swoon-worthy in this house! biggrin.gif

I am not a fan either!! But I am possibly affected by a lady I knew in my teens called Josephine and she was a horrid thing, as were her daughters. Vincent reminds me too much of Vinnie from Home & Away (think Ryan Kwanten the dude who plays Jason Stackhouse from True Blood)!! huh.gif
Peanut
Apologies that this doesn't fit the "baby names" topic, but just wanted to add that I've read that the christening gown that Princess Josephine wore was a gown that was given to her great grandmother in 1940 that had never been used. It was adapted for the new little princess for the occasion.

Vincent wore the gown that his older brother and sister (and father) wore at their christenings.

Thanks for sharing the pics Peanut!

I like the Greenlandic connection in their names. Josephine is lovely.

No it amazes me that some can be so nasty about other peoples choices.

A simple NMS would be suffice, but to term them as 'horrible' or 'hideous' is just being OTT.
*Shabadoo*
Josephine - great!
Vincent - meh.
~Nessa~
I love the pics of Prince Christian holding Princess Isabella's hand while they walk outside amongst the crowd. So adorable wub.gif
Shauna+Molly+Annie
I really like Vincent.
I would try as hard as hell to prevent NN Vinnie and the like but considering he is a prince I am sure only the inner circle would use shortened versions anyway.

Vin is not to bad I suppose.

I also love Josefine but I hate that spelling (even though I know its legitimate) compared to Josephine.

Peanut
The spelling is Josephine according to the royal family's website - http://kongehuset.dk/publish.php?dogtag=k_en_fam_josephine

I think the mixup came from a European journalist who spelled it the way it was commonly spelled in his country?
Freddie'sMum
Love love love Josephine !!

Sorry but I don't think Vincent is a nice name at all. I also don't believe as twins they have made a good match. I was thinking they would go for a traditional Danish boys' name like Laars (sp).

Julie3Girls
Josefine is lovely. Vincent, not my taste at all.

Love the photos - nice to see such candid shots, rather than the more posed official photos the magazines always have. Such a normal lovely looking family.
JJ
Super cute children with gorgeous names. If I didn't like her, it would be nauseatingly perfect. wink.gif This way it's just perfect. tongue.gif
delli
Not names I would use, but I still think they are stunning all the same for a little prince and princess.

The whole combo's are gorgeous.

I have been looking through photos has mary wore the same head piece to all 3 christenings? She has defiantely wore cream to them all. Off to investigate that further....

MnM
Fantastic names, to go with her other 2 little ones fantastic names.

What a gorgeous family wub.gif
babaganoush
I love Josephine, very classic to me. Not so hot for Vincent though!

Just a thought about the names... A friend of mine married a Dane and has lived in Copenhagen for 15 years or so now. They have two boys. When naming them they were very careful to find names that would be spelt and pronounced the same in both Danish and English. It was their number 1 priority. I remember DF commenting on how hard that was for boys names especially.

All the kids' first names (even Christian, though they had no choice there!) follow this 'rule'.

Beautiful family!
justthinking1
awwww.... now in 9 weeks time everyone will be asking me "so did you get that from Princess Mary's baby girl?"

I like Vincent, strong and classic. Josefine is pretty, a name I wanted for myself when I was younger.
Peanut
Thinking about it, I guess the reason I'm not that keen on Vincent is that I prefer Vincenzo, especially when the name is applied to a dark haired, dark eyed Italian stallion! I guess it doesn't quite fit the context of a northern Danish prince in my minds eye. I'll get used to it though!

How annoying!
futureself
I adore Josephine and fits very well with the older two. I must admit that Vincent is not my style here but I think that's an Australiian 'Vinnie' thing rather than the original Vincent...if that makes sense!

How annoying! There are those that don't pat attention to Royal goings-on though so you may get some reprieve. It's a beautiful name
