Riley Lewis
Born 5/4/11
8.07am, 7lbs, 49.5cm wub.gif

This was a scheduled c-section at 38weeks 2days, after my uterus ruptured during an awful delivery of my now 2 year old son.
The week prior to Riley's delivery we discovered he had turned Posterior, rolleyes.gif just like my previous pregnancy.
The Caesar was scheduled for 8am but the lady booked in for 7.30 had delivered the previous day so we got the 7.30am time.
We were up at 4.30am & DS1 came out to see what was happening. I had told him the day before that Daddy & I were going to the Doctor to have the baby & Grandma would be here when he woke up. I gave him cuddles & he said "Mummy Doctor, Grandma sleeping" wub.gif
We got to the hospital at 6am to shower & fill out paperwork etc. At 7.15 I was wheeled down to the operating room & had my IV put in, the nurses were lovely we were all cracking jokes. I told them about my previous birth & we were all saying how this one would be a lovely, different experience. hands.gif
I was notified that my OB was called to do another delivery so we had to wait a little while. During that time the Anesthetist was calling out "Can anyone find that instruction manual on how to do a Spinal Block?"
We only waited about 15mins & I went back in the Operating room at 7.45 to see 2 Nurses practising their Golf swing. The whole atmosphere was great, everyone was happy & positive.
There is a lot I don't remember about my DS1 birth. This time was a lot different. I got to feel the freezing cold sterilising wash on my back & sting of the local anesthetic. Before I'd even laid back on the bed, my legs were almost completely numb.
From then on it was a waiting game with the Nurses, my OB, Peadiatrician & Anesthetist all singing, telling stories & laughing. I was getting the run down from the Nurse next to my head saying that they had started & that now I'll feel some pushing & why etc etc.
I got a huge wave of dizziness/nausea & they put cold towels on my forehead & adjusted the medication. That feeling passed in about 2mins but I was very groggy.
At 8.07am they dropped the sheet & told me to have a look at my baby. DH started photographing & I noticed Riley was a Boy! wub.gif
He cried straight away but not for long. He was put under the heat lamp on oxygen for 10mins as his lungs weren't taking in much. When he was born he was taking in 44% oxygen & after 10mins it was up to 76% but they wanted it to be 100% so the Peadiatrician told me he needed to go to the Nursery for a while. They put him on my chest for about 1min & then took him away with DH in tow.
They stitched me up & I was so groggy I was nearly falling asleep. I was so happy he was here.
To me the stitching took a long time. Apparently I had some Adhesions on the scar tissue inside my uterus from last time so my OB removed them while there.
At 9am I was in recovery amazed at the lack of feeling in my lower body. The Nurses checked my cathedar & I remember thinking how did my leg get over there? wacko.gif
My Mum was at home with DS1 & was expecting my delivery to be at 7.30am so I was dying to call her with the news but we weren't allowed phones in recovery. About 9.15 I received news that Riley's lungs were taking in 100% oxygen & he was fine. tthumbs.gif
At 10am I was taken out of recovery & to my temporary room which was a 4 bedder, but no one else was in there. The ward was full but they were expecting someone to go home that day so I could move into my own room.
From there I called my Mum who was in tears terrified something had happened like last time. She had phoned my Dad to see if he had heard from me.
Within 15mins they brought Riley to me & the Lactation Nurse was close behind. They put him lying on the bed beside me & attempted to roll me on my side to feed him. This is VERY hard to do when you still have no feeling from your chest down! It was very awkward but we got there in the end & the Lactation Nurse left at 11am quite confident we were fine. I remember breast feeding hurt like hell last time but this time it was fine.
Mum & DS1 came to visit that afternoon & DS1 was amazed by Riley. biggrin.gif
I just have to keep an eye on his weight as he keeps falling alseep while feeding & he sleeps a lot during the day. He was born 3180gms, left hospital on Saturday at 2835gms which was more than 10% weight loss. So I had him weighed on Monday at 2920gms & today Wednesday at 3010gms. Not back to his birth weight yet but getting there.
It was just a beautiful experience & I'm so happy to have my lovely healthy boys. llove.gif
