Are there any apart from Gabe? I love Gabriel but not so keen on Gabe.
Gaby/Gabi sounds a bit feminine to me (but maybe because I have only ever known Gabrielles not Gabriels)

Riel?
G-man

(just kidding, although that would be a real possibility in my house)

I once knew a Gaby, real name Gabriel. It wasn't so unusual at the time. I think its kinda nice, but probably wouldn't choose it for my kid.

I went to school with a Gabriel, and we shortened it to Gabs.

The gorgeous name of Gabriel has been forever tarnished for me since I went to school with one who a lot of kids used to call 'Gaybo'

I liked Gabriel but hated Gabe.
I figured he'd get Gabe from school, etc. So I didn't use it

I liked the name Gabriel for DS but my DH didn't. Having said that, we named him Samuel and he is mostly called Samuel by people, only Sam by us sometimes. So I think just because you go for Gabriel, if you keep referring to him as Gabriel most people won't shorten it (???).
But we do have a Gabriella, and she does get Gabby a bit at day care, but never by us. I don't like Gabi or any version of it for a boy though.

I grew up was a Gabrielle (female) now she got Gay as her nickname. Ths was the 70's though LOL.
I quite like Gabe for males as a shorten version of Gabriel

Also Gabri - pronounced "Gabree".
I adore this name and I am sure any boy given this name would have to turn out to be gorgeous.

Of course it would help to teach him a little french to carry off that particular pronunciation of the diminutive.

Exactly!
To be honest though I think Gabe is fairly good, tends to remind me of Gabe Kaplan.

G-man

We already have an X-man in the house (Xavier, but more commonly known as Xavi or XavXav)!

This I could do...
Hmm, we both love the name and even though it doesn't flow perfectly with the last name, to me it is just such a good fit with big brother Xavier. If it turns out Xavi is having a little sister, she would be Genevieve so that might give you a sense of our naming style.
(and no, we don't have a french bone in our bodies!)
Thanks!

I adore Gabriel and NN Gabe. I have heard Gab but it pales in comparison.

I have a 4 yr old Gabriel. He has always been Gabe to us. We loved both versions of the name & decided on it as our boys name after watching the movie "the Patriot" when we were 1st married. The oldest son is Gabriel. One thing that quite annoys me about Gabriel is people pronouncing it "Gabrielle"- and therefore making it sound feminine. Also both my sister in laws spell Gabe without an 'e' & therefore making it GAB.
