Hi all

Just wondering if any of you have some tips for getting rid of bubs' wind pains?? Or better still avoiding/minimising them in the first place? Both Hayden and Jackson seem to have the same prob (at different times of course ;-)) in that they have a very long unsettled period when they should be asleep directly following a feed (eg: today Jackson only slept for 45 min after his early morning feed and then after his early a/noon feed only 1 hr). I tried patting/rubbing his back (sitting, over the shoulder, on tummy), as well as a deep warm bath. I also have some natural medicine style wind drops, but nothing really seems to make a difference. A dummy to suck on has been tried as well, but they can only keep them in for a while when they fall out = two v.sad babies. I will keep persevering as it is probably just something we will eventually work though, but any new ideas to try would be great.

Thanks
Lindy

PS They are only 12 days old.

Your MCH nurse might have some tips-eg pushing their legs up to their abdo....riding a bicycle etc-she can show you different types of baby massage....are they bottle or breast fed?....are you sure its wind?

I only say that cause its easy to put lots of things down to 'wind' (or teeth as we did!).....Joel had 'wind' which we self diagnosed and treated...in hindsight for us it was probably due to the formula he was on (he has had problems with food allergies when he started solids)...Cam also had very runny poos from about the time he started teething (which was also when he started solids) that we always put down to 'teeth;..only trouble is theyve continued even though all his teeth are thru and we're finally going down the Dr/specialist track to find out whats going on!

Dont want to scare you...just maybe get some expert advice before putting them onto anything (drops etc)-like I say..MCH nurse might be a good starting point...you may also need some settling tips.

Good luck

PS your photos are gorgeous! Congratulations!

hi lindy

we had to prop feed our boys and come the night feeds dh and i were physicaly exhausted that we would shove the bottles in and be woken by the suck of air (when bottles were empty) we would jump so fast as burping triplets SUCKS... ((I Dont think dh burped our 4th child at all))
sounds awful but they were on 3hourly feeds FOREVER so we did what we could..

anyway ..... putting them in V shaped pillows helped us with the boys or at least keeping them upright to try and keep everything down were it should be..
blake had gastric reflux but it was more the pain he had not the throwing up that was the problem..

the only way my boys burped was hand under the chin and patting the back or a massage motion from the tail bone to the shoulder blades!!IYKWIM

good luck and i hope all gets settled quickly and smoothly for you

Hi there one of my little bundles has had bad wind since about 3weeks old. I tried a number of things before resorting to a natural remedy. You can try Marina’s Infant Mixture, Infacol Or Infants Friend, I am currently using Infants Friend and find it nothing but a god send, i give approx. 15 drops before feed and after feed. It has been the best thing that someone has recommended. These can be used from birthI find that rubbing Korbin over my shoulder is the best way and try walking when you do it i think it must have something to do with the movement of your body that gets things moving.

Hope you find some relief soon. Nothing worse than seeing them in pain

Hi Lindy, I vaguely remember this. My 2 were pretty good at getting wind up (still are - get it from their dad) but we did have the occasional drama. I basically found that if I didn't get a good burp fairly soon after a feed, we had to ride it out for about 20mins or so until it came out the other end IYKWIM. Sorry, not much help I know. We got the best burps over the shoulder, but every bub is different. Also, might have been my imagination, but it seemed to be easier after a breastfeed than a bottle.

Good luck, it must be horrible for the poor little tikes.

Thanks all. Lots of great advice and food for thought. Will also talk it over with the child health nurse when she visits next. Had a much better day today. Fed them for longer at the breast, and the extra sucking seemed to help? Hopefully tonight also good (touch wood!).
