So, after DH vetoed my favourite girls name (Alexa), Ive been trying to come up with a few more to put to him.
Saw the name Elysia the other day and thought how pretty it looks written down
How do you think it would be pronounced? I was thinking El-ees-ia but could it be El-iss-ia too?
What do you think? Be honest, I dont mind if you all hate it - rather know now what people think of it so I can cross it off my list if need be
Middle name also completely undecided, possibly options are Scarlett, Caitlin or Robyn (my mums name).

A friend of mine named her daughter this many years ago. I don't particulary like it. I find it confusing and always have to stop and think how it's spelt and pronounced.
I prefer Elise.

El-iss-ia is the way I would pronounce it. It's not something I would use, but it's okay.

I would pron. El-liss-ia.
I think it is quite nice but prefer Alexa (damn DH!) or Scarlett for a FN.

LOL me too obviously, but he hated Scarlett from the word go and eventually told me he wasnt fussed on Alexa either
Would people prefer Alyssa/Alissa? Might be more straighforward/less confusing re pronunciation.

I much prefer Alexa, Ellysia sounds a bit like the name of a medication (sorry), it could be worse though my neice was given a (made up) name which caused many people to quietly comment that it sounds like a strange disease

Couldn't not reply. It is my name and I pronounce it El-iss-ia. I like that my name is uncommon but yes, you're in for a lifetime of spelling and pronouncing it correctly.

This is how I would pronounce it too. I think it's quite nice, I like it the best of your suggestions.

I think it is pretty and looks like I am the only one who prefers it over Alexa. I would say El-iss-ia and I know a girl of about 9 with this name and I know another who is 3. There is also Alicia and a name I hear a bit is Alessia... the other name you mentioned I know spelt as Alyssa (I know 2 babies from work born in the last year called Alyssa!). I like them all, sure she may have to spell it out but who cares...? I have a common name and have to spell it out all the time.

I would have pronounced it like Alicia except with a more El sound instead of an Al sound.
Although I can see how it could be pronounced El-iss-i-a as well.
I actually really like it.

I would say E-ly-see-ah. Whether it is or isnt't, it looks horribly made up. How about Alessia (Ah-less-ee-ah) or Alicia (A-lee-sha)?

El-iss-ia is how I would pronounce it.
It's ok but I think Elise is better.

Alyssa is quite pretty and less confusing.

I like the idea of Elysia more than the way it sounds if that makes sense (see below). I quite like the look of it but wouldn't use it as it'd be forever getting mixed up with Alicia (which I like), Alyssa (which I don't) and various others.
I thought it came from the word Elysium (Greek heaven?)

I'd pronounce it Ee-liss-ee-ah because i'd assume it was derived from Greek mythology. The
Elysian Fields or Elysian Plains were the final resting places of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous.

I quite like it and prefer it over similar looking and sounding names that are around at the moment.
I'm not that into Alyssa, Alicia etc I can see problems with people thinking it is something else but that shouldn't be a deal-breaker. People reinvent our names for us all the time.
Elysia Scarlett
I do like Alexa but Elysia if you can't have that: eh-liss-ee-ah.

This is what I was thinking, ie, has an unfortunate association with death in Greek mythology. How about Alyssa or Alannah? Don't like Alexa at all but might just be something to do with a rather unpleasant colleage of mine. Much prefer Alexandra or Alessandra.

I always thought Elysia from Greek myth was pronounced El - ee -zyah, but I have been known to get it wrong.

I Much prefer Alyssia, or Alyssa. Much less confusing! I kept trying to figure out how to say it, and had to look to see if i was right or wrong!

Clarins had a treatment fragrance (not sure whether they still do) called Elysium, that's what it reminded me off.

I would pronounce it E -lee-sha.
I don't like any of those kind of names:
Elise, Elyse, Elice, Elyce, Alyce etc

Thanks for all the replies guys!
Im thinking I might add Alyssa/Alyssia to the list as they seem to be less confusing.
I keep wanting to say El-ee-zyah when I see it written down, and since most others dont pronounce it that way, I think its going to be too confusing
Definitely dont like Alicia, but I dont mind Elise, so might have to think on that one a bit more too
